Congressman Babin’s Town Hall in Liberty

Tuesday, June 2, at 6:30 pm, citizens from a wide geographical area gathered at the Liberty Opry to meet with Congressman Brian Babin in a Town Hall Meeting.

Congressman Babin took time to give his constituents an update on the issues that he is working on in Washington that also affect their daily lives.

Pastor Danny Biddy of Old River Baptist rendered the opening prayer. The congressman has an extremely personable style of public speaking. Although the auditorium at The Liberty Opry was over half full with folks from Baytown, Tarkington, Polk County, Liberty County and more, the meeting had the tone of a chat amongst neighbors.

He presented the issues, told how he stood on each, and then fielded questions from each and every person present who had one. This congressman called each person by name, informed everyone else where they resided, and addressed topics from fixing the problems within the Veterans Administration to how to ensure that seniors receive proper nutrition through programs like Meals on Wheels.

Since early in his campaign, Dr. Babin has pointed to and stood against many problems in the present healthcare system; namely Obamacare.Last Thursday night was no exception. When asked about the act he introduced in response to the Supreme Court ruling which upheld Obamacare, Congressman Babin told the Liberty Town Hall Meeting audience how he introduced the SCOTUS Act requiring the Supreme Court and all of its employees to sign up for Obamacare. According to Babin, this will, "show them firsthand what the American people are forced to live with."

Another issue of great concern to this elected official is the fact that although is was a state issue, our current president issued a statement favoring transgender men's use of women's restrooms. This massive statement by President Obama, led to public schools being told that funds would be withheld if gender neutral restrooms were not provided. Congressman Babin stands firmly against this.
Like so many, Dr. Babin has a large family. He shared with the Thursday night audience that his 13 grandchildren range from ages two months to 10 years of age. He says that his votes are determining the quality of life and the futures of his grandchildren and everyone's children and grandchildren.

Several other issues were presented as food for thought.

Representative Babin reported, "There are over 500,000 refugees in the U. S. Isis has already promised they will exploit the program." Babin says, he is a "Christian, but it is overwhelming to look at the number of military aged males coming over. Ninety percent of the refugees are on welfare. We can help 12 in their homeland for every one that we bring over here." He is also dismayed that illegal aliens can get medical help more quickly than a veteran. Another slab of meat on his plate is fixing the long term error that every public school teacher finds on each paycheck; a deduction for a federal program from which they can never benefit.

Congressman Babin informed the crowd that the Office of U. S. Texas's 36th Congressional District is "community accessible", and "serves to help with the VA, FEMA, IRS, Tour requests and other subjects as possible. "He says that his goal is, "fighting for everyone."

The closing prayer was said by Rev. Dan Rutland of Dayton. After that people began to mingle and visit.

Once he had said more hellos and goodbyes to the ones who were setting off, Dr. Babin was seen once again answering questions.
