U.S. Congressman Brian Babin spoke on a variety of issues plaguing the nation during his visit to the monthly luncheon, hosted by the GCCOC, on Thursday, Sept. 3. Among those topics was the importance of accountability and what that should mean to American citizens.

“Hard working citizens deserve a government that is accountable,” said Babin, stressing that he does not believe the current state of the nation illustrates that fact.

He continued by stating his belief is that the nation should return to a state of limited government and fight for a healthy economy.

“We need to reduce the size and scope of the federal government and restore the rule of the law,” said Babin, garnering applause from the audience.

While speaking, Babin addressed many topics that are currently being seen in the media, including business owners declining to provide services for a same-sex wedding. In addition, he mentioned the controversial leaked videos with information alleging that Planned Parenthood clinics across the nation are involved in selling tissue of aborted babies.

“I already signed a letter telling Boehner that they better not try to pass any bill that gives tax payer funding to Planned Parenthood,” said Babin. “We will shut the government down before we pass a bill to do something like that.”

He also touched on the topic of amnesty for illegal immigrants, stating that he will not vote for “illegally executive ordered amnesty.”

Babin spoke about the current state of the Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals throughout the nation, adding that he is among those working to pass legislation that would make it a priority to hire veterans to work at the VA and to rid the establishment of VA workers who have proven to be negligent.

In response to the Iran nuclear deal, a deal that has drawn a large amount of criticism, Babin stated that he believes that “the people that vote for this deal are making some of the worst mistakes of their lives.”

“This leadership is making our enemies not fear us and our allies not trust us,” said Babin. “A strong military is not just to win war. It is to deter war.”

On the topic of education, Babin added that he believes strongly in local control of schools and that he will continue to vote in a manner that illustrates that point.

“I want this country to get back on track and I’m optimistic,” said Babin, closing by encouraging all present to visit the nation’s capitol.
