Babin: 2017 was year of accomplishments
Cleveland Advocate | By U.S. Rep. Brian Babin December 29, 2017 | Link With the election of President Trump and a Republican Congress, we set out on a conservative agenda in 2017 to restore and rebuild America's economy and national security. As 2017 comes to a close, I am proud of the many conservative reforms we have enacted and the benefits they have already brought to the people I represent in Southeast Texas and the entire American public. This year, we advanced a conservative agenda in Washington that included passing the largest tax cut in American history, overseeing the creation of 1.5 million new American jobs, rolling back 22 costly government regulations for each new one imposed and slashing illegal border crossings by over 70 percent. In working with the President, we have also halted the flow of refugees from terror-prone regions, unleashed American energy, deported tens of thousands of criminal aliens, brought new accountability and record funding to the VA and restored funding for our military and troops. While I have been disappointed with some of my colleagues who have failed to support President Trump's conservative agenda, I am very pleased that we are still finding ways to make significant progress. Simply put, 2017 was a year of accomplishments and results. While it has been a successful year in Washington, it has also been a very challenging year for the thousands of folks in Southeast Texas impacted by the catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Harvey's destruction was widespread and heart wrenching, but in the midst of this devastation, we saw incredible stories of bravery, compassion and resiliency. There are countless stories of neighbors helping neighbors, communities helping communities and strangers helping strangers. From the very start, in that same Texas spirit, my office and I have been working hard to help meet the needs of those across our community who have suffered damage from Hurricane Harvey. We have been able to assist thousands of constituents across our nine counties through individual casework, mobile office hours, town halls and correspondence. If we can help you, please contact our office immediately. We are ready and eager to help. As we look forward to the New Year, it is my promise to continue fighting every day for those I am privileged to represent in Congress. From growing our economy to ensuring our constituents get the resources they need to recover from Hurricane Harvey, I will always do everything I can to help improve the lives of good folks of the 36th Congressional District. It is a tremendous honor to serve as your representative and I look forward to another successful year of advancing and defending our conservative Texas values in Congress. |
