Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Brian Babin (TX-36) issued the following statement today celebrating the 180th anniversary of Texas independence:

“On this date, 180 years ago, a group of brave Texas settlers broke from the ruling Mexican authorities to officially establish the Republic of Texas. Their bravery and courage continues to serve as an inspiration and reminder of what makes Texas so great. Just like at the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto, Texans have never been afraid to stand up for our principles and fight for our rights – even when greatly outnumbered. Today, as we celebrate Texas Independence Day, we honor all those who came before us and helped make Texas the greatest state in the union.”
