Babin Joins GOP Lawsuit Against Proxy Voting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36) issued the following statement after requesting to join Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and other House Republicans’ lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Democrat rule on proxy voting (H. Res. 965).

“I was elected to represent the great people of Texas’ 36th Congressional District, and it has been a tremendous honor to do so for going on five years” said Babin. “For centuries, Members of Congress have been elected to come to the U.S. Capitol to act as the voice of their constituents and vote on bills to strengthen America, keep it and its people safe, and help them to thrive. House Democrats’ proxy voting rule takes away the constitutional duty of every member, and I oppose it completely.

“I will never utilize the constitutionally dubious provisions included in H.Res. 965 for proxy voting. Period. I remain proud to serve the upstanding citizens of TX-36, and believe they’d agree with me on this decision.”
