WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36) issued the following statement as Senate Democrats continue to obstruct the passing of the Phase III Coronavirus (COVID-19) relief package currently in the U.S. Senate.

“We are living in an unprecedented time as COVID-19 continues to cripple our nation,” said Babin. “Americans are suffering and need Congress to do its job and pass the relief package currently in the Senate. Disappointingly, instead of putting the American people and the common good first, Senate Democrats have decided to play politics and hold this aid hostage in order to push Speaker Pelosi’s far-left, socialist Green New Deal agenda.

“The American people should not have to tell these elected Members of Congress that ‘now is not the time for obstruction,’ but unfortunately it’s clear to the country that these Democrats are willing to gamble with the lives and wellbeing of hundreds of millions of people for the sake of messaging.

“We are in the middle of a crisis, and these obscene actions are dangerous – getting desperately needed relief into the hands of the American people is not a game.”
