Babin Responds to Senate Democrats’ Refusal to Prevent Infanticide

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36) released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked a pair of pro-life bills from passing last night, including the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act which would allow infants who are born after an attempted abortion to receive life-saving medical care.

“To say I’m disappointed with yesterday’s Senate vote is an understatement,” said Babin. “Protecting innocent babies born alive after a botched abortion should never be a difficult or partisan vote. It’s truly shameful that the majority of Senate Democrats do not seem to care about protecting our nation’s most vulnerable.

“We have a moral obligation to stand in defense of those who cannot yet defend themselves. While Democrats continue to ignore this serious issue, I will not stop fighting to end infanticide and protect the sanctity of every human life.”

Background Information:

In the House of Representatives, 204 members – including all House Republicans and three House Democrats – have signed a discharge petition to force a vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

Since its introduction, House Republicans have tried a total of 80 times to bring this bill up for a vote under a unanimous consent request, only to be blocked by Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats.

According to a recent poll, 77 percent of Americans support legislation to ensure that a baby who survives a failed abortion is given the same medical treatment as any other baby born prematurely at the same age.
