DAYTON, TX – On Monday, December 16, U.S. Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36) along with the United States Postal Service hosted countless community and family members, local dignitaries, and top military officials for a ceremony renaming the Post Office in Hardin, Texas after a local hero, Chief Warrant Officer II Lucas Maurice Lowe. Chief Lowe, a decorated veteran with tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan, tragically passed away on December 28, 2016, during a flight with the Texas Army National Guard.

The event began with a flyover by two AH-64 Apache attack helicopters piloted by members of Chief Lowe’s unit, the 1^st-149^th Attack and Reconnaissance Battalion, a fitting tribute for a man who achieved his dream of flying as an Army pilot. Congressman Babin, author of the bill (H.R. 1250) which designates the postal facility as the “Lucas Lowe Memorial Post Office,” addressed the crowd and presented Lucas’ widow, Kami, with an official copy of the bill signed into law by President Donald Trump on August 23, 2019. 

“We gathered together just a few days short of the third anniversary of Lucas’ passing,” said Rep. Babin. “He died in the service of the Texas Army National Guard, and looking around me on Monday, it was evident how much of an impression he made upon his family, community, and brothers and sisters in uniform. I consider it a distinct privilege to have been able to honor a man like Lucas Lowe, who was as much an irreplaceable part of Southeast Texas as that very post office.”

State Representative Ernest Bailes, County Judge Jay Knight, Hardin Mayor Harry Johnson, and Samantha Pickett (Lucas’ aunt) each made special presentations to the family. Adjutant General for the State of Texas, Major General Tracy Norris, discussed her admiration for Chief Lowe’s military service as a model soldier and great patriot and presented Mrs. Lowe with his awards from the Army and Texas National Guard.
