Babin Votes Against Budget Deal
Opposes $1.5 Trillion Debt Limit Increase
|
This budget deal is exactly why the American people are so fed up with Washington. I couldn’t be more disappointed and frustrated with both the substance of this budget-busting agreement, as well as the way it is was negotiated in secret and rushed through Congress.
With a $19 trillion national debt, it’s unfathomable that this Administration would ask for and receive another $1.5 trillion debt limit increase without meaningful spending cuts or reforms in return. For that reason alone, I could not support this ill-conceived measure.

| Babin Warns of Grave Threat Associated With U.N.-Run Refugee Program |
I felt compelled to speak on the House floor last week about an issue that impacts the safety and security of this country. There is a grave threat to our national security that no one seems to want to talk about or address. We talk around it, allude to it, look the other way, or vainly hope that it will just go away. But sticking our heads in the sand will not make it go away.

The threat that I am referring to is the Refugee Resettlement Act. This threat is growing and a lack of knowledge, foresight and action on our part could jeopardize the future of our children and our grandchildren. Please listen to and share this important message on some of the dangers associated with this program. I hope this will result in serious debate and effective reevaluation of our refugee resettlement policies.

House Republican Conference Unites Around Paul Ryan for Speaker
- Ryan Promises to Fix 'Broken' House - |
Last week, a nearly unified House Republican Conference elected Paul Ryan to be the next Speaker of the House. Along with many of my conservative House colleagues, I supported Chairman Ryan after gaining his assurance that he will stay focused on the conservative policies that form the majority of our House Republican Conference.
Chairman Ryan also promised us that he will change the way the House operates to a manner in which each member is empowered and involved throughout the legislative process. I believe that Chairman Ryan can unify our conference around a bold conservative agenda – which is a critical part of us being able to win back the White House. Going forward, I plan to hold him accountable in our efforts to advance these policies.

| Babin Votes Against Reauthorization of Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im) |
|
This past week I voted against legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im), including a vote on a “discharge petition” that forced reauthorization legislation through Congress. I’ve been troubled by the scandals that have plagued Ex-Im -- which was not addressed under the legislation considered in the House. I also believe that rather than expanding Export Credit Agencies (ECA) like Ex-Im, the U.S. should make it a priority to eliminate such agencies across the world. |
