Reaction to the Senseless and Cowardly Murder of Deputy Darren Goforth
|
I join the entire Houston community and the state of Texas in condemning and mourning the senseless murder and loss of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth. As we search for answers and justice, I commend the Houston community for coming together in such strong support for Deputy Goforth, his family, and for all law enforcement officers and their families. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Goforth family and the entire Harris County Sheriff's Office during this very difficult time.

Tourism and Hotel Roundtable Discussion in Clear Lake
|
Following a recent tour of the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake, we held a roundtable discussion focused on the economic benefits provided by the hotel and tourism industry in the region. As a small business owner, I am committed to promoting pro-growth policies that provide businesses in Texas and across the country with the certainty they need to create jobs and grow our local economies. The Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake, located conveniently near Space Center Houston, supports our area with good jobs and new economic opportunities, while promoting travel and tourism in the Nassau Bay area. It was a pleasure to meet with hotel employees and learn more about the important opportunities the hotel industry has to offer in our community.

I enjoyed the opportunity to meet directly with all the mayors from across Chambers County during a recent luncheon at Morgan's Point Museum. We had a very productive conversation about the many issues important to Chambers County and each of their communities.

| Pictures from the District |
A very warm thank you to Baytown artist Ken Pridgeon for presenting me with this painting of Navy SEAL Marc Lee. Marc’s story is very personal to me and my family. He was the first Navy SEAL to be killed in action during the Iraq War. He served courageously by the side of my son Leif under very difficult circumstances in the fight for Ramadi. He was an American hero, but more importantly our friend. My son’s first child Brian Marc was named after Marc Lee. I'm honored to have known this special young man and I look forward to displaying this painting very proudly.
I recently visited the Tejas Tubular steel casing facility in Houston to get a firsthand look at its operations and meet directly with employees. The 36th Congressional District of Texas, along with the bordering Houston area, is home to a number of America's leading producers of tubular products used in the energy sector.
