More Than One Million Illegal Alien Apprehensions by September 30
As of June 30, nearly 700,000 people have been caught breaking our laws and crossing our southern border illegally. These numbers are astronomical – and already well beyond numbers recorded from previous years. It is no surprise that illegal crossing numbers are expected to reach more than one million by the end of fiscal year 2019 (Sept. 30). It is also no surprise that because of this immigration facilities along our southern border have been operating over max capacity for months now.

Sadly, House Democrats would rather point fingers and blame ICE and Border Patrol agents, than take action and pass bills that actually address the underlying issues and fix our broken immigration system.
Babin’s Lucas Lowe Memorial Post Office Bill (H.R. 1250) Passes U.S. Senate
H.R. 1250 passed in the U.S. Senate Tuesday night and is now on its way to the President's desk to be signed into law.

I am tremendously proud and honored to have led the effort to rename the Hardin Post Office after a true American hero – Lucas Lowe. It brings me great joy knowing that Lucas’ memory will be cemented in history forever, and I pray all who pass by or walk through the doors of the soon-to-be Lucas Lowe Memorial Post Office will be inspired to live as he did.
I would like to thank Senator John Cornyn and Senator Ted Cruz for their efforts to ensure that this bill was brought to the floor of the Senate quickly.

More Jobs Added During July
Another 164,000 jobs were added to the market last month allowing more Americans to rejoin the workforce! In fact, so many folks went back to work that it brought our labor force to 163.4 million – which is a record high. Our economy continues to thrive thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and deregulation practices we have seen since President Trump took office. The current status of our economy truly shows how well Republican pro-growth, pro-opportunity policies work.

 What Have Democrats Accomplished?
The Democrat majority has spent the last seven months proposing policies that reverse the incredible growth of our economy, increase government control in our daily lives, promote anti-Semitism, ignore the border crisis, and will ultimately bankrupt our country. Not to mention, they have repeatedly misled the American people with an investigation that concluded months ago. Can you believe we are STILL hearing about Robert Mueller and the collusion hoax? What makes the blatant political theater even more ridiculous is the fact that the majority of bills they have passed in the House do not stand the slightest chance of passing in the Senate. So, what exactly have House Democrats accomplished this Congress?
 ExxonMobil Refinery Fire
The recent plant fires that have occurred over the past several months are unfortunate and alarming, but we all remain grateful to the men and women who continue to work so hard to keep our citizens safe. While the authority to address this emergency initially resides primarily with local officials and agencies, I pledge my full support to do all within my authority as a federal official to ensure a thorough investigation into the cause – just as I have in past events.

We have an industry-heavy district, the majority of which promote a safety culture throughout every aspect of operation. These industries always want to keep their employees safe and be good neighbors to the communities where they reside. That being said, we must learn more of how this event occurred so we are better able to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Congratulating Judge Holly Williamson
Congratulations to Judge Holly Williamson, Harris County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 8, Place 1, on being named the 2018 Judge of the Year by the Justices of the Peace and Constables Association of Texas.
Beverly Ferguson, a Regional Director on my staff, presented the Judge with a Congressional Record statement highlighting her impressive achievement along with an American flag that I had flown over the U.S. Capitol. This award could not have been given to a more deserving individual. Congratulations again on a job well done!
 Stand with Parkland Meeting
It was a true honor to speak with Stand with Parkland President, Tony Montalto, and Founding Member, Gena Hoyer, during their recent visit to Washington – both tragically lost a child at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL last year.
We discussed the desperate need for behavioral threat assessment to be implemented across the country in order to prevent these types of violent acts. It is heartbreaking to think that their children, and so many others, might still be alive if we had active threat assessment teams in schools. The TAPS Act will ensure states and local entities have the resources to do just that. We must get this bill signed into law!
Why Congress Must Enact Commercial Remote Sensing Reforms
Remote sensing is the imaging of Earth from space. It is incredibly valuable for environmental, national security, and commercial purposes. Unfortunately, it is governed by an outdated law that is in desperate need of updating.

Take a moment to read my Op-Ed featured in Space News about this important topic and how my bill, the American Space Commerce Free Enterprise Act (H.R. 3610), will update the regulatory process, and reorganize the Department of Commerce to enable a 21st century commercial remote sensing industry in the U.S.

 Mauriceville Market Basket Grand Opening
Destroyed by Hurricane Harvey more than a year ago, the Market Basket located in Mauriceville is once again open for business.

Market Basket post Hurricane Harvey.
Lanie Brown, a Regional Director on my staff, was in attendance for the grand opening earlier this week.
She presented a Congressional Record statement and American flag – that was flown over our nation's capital – to store owner, Skylar Thompson. This is an important occasion as many still work to recover from the storm.
