U.S. Congressman Brian Babin
Honoring First Responders

Rep. Babin pictured presenting Cleveland Police Department officers and Chief Darrell Brousard with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition

I spent this past week traveling all over the 36th District to meet with constituents and hear about the issues that are most important to them. One of my first stops was in Cleveland to attend a first responder appreciation luncheon, where I was also able to present departments from all across Liberty County with Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition.

Firefighters, law enforcement, and paramedics are always the first to arrive during times of crisis, and played a vital role in helping our communities during Hurricane Harvey. These folks truly represent the best of America and the great state of Texas, and I was honored to be able to thank them for their service

Making America Great Again in Space

Rep. Babin speaking with U.S. astronauts aboard the ISS along with Senator Ted Cruz, White House Advisor Ivanka Trump, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine and JSC Director Mark Geyer

On Thursday, I had the honor to speak to the astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) from Mission Control at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston along with: Senior White House Advisor Ivanka Trump, Senator Ted Cruz, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, JSC Director Mark Geyer, and NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine. We heard about the important work being done to strengthen America’s space program as we work together to re-establish U.S. leadership in space. NASA provides a tremendous benefit to Houston, the state of Texas, and our nation’s economy through tens of thousands of jobs and technological spinoffs that effect nearly every business sector.

JSC has an essential role in achieving America’s goals of returning to the Moon, sending humans to Mars, and beyond. The Trump Administration, Congress, and the American people share a commitment to these missions and together, we are on our way to making America great again in space!

President Trump Orders Feds to Declassify Key FISA Documents
Two weeks ago, I joined with my House colleagues to call for the declassification of the Carter Page FISA warrant application. This past week, President Trump delivered by ordering the FISA application, key documents, and text messages to be declassified. I hope these documents will be released without delay so the American people can get the answers that they deserve.

TX-36 Snap-Shots

These dramatic side-by-side pictures show how severe the flooding was during Hurricane Harvey. The photo on the right was taken in Hardin County in the midst of Harvey with water 10 feet deep. On the left, we have the same location one year later. All nine counties in the 36th District were declared federal disasters.

I had a great time participating in the Gulf Coast Industry Forum Congressional Panel yesterday, where I joined Congressman Randy Weber and Congressman Gene Green to talk about storm surge protection, workforce development, NAFTA, and my open competition bill. Thanks to the Economic Alliance Houston Port Region for hosting this important discussion!
