It's an absolute honor and privilege to serve as your representative in the U.S. Congress. Babin Tours Southeast Texas Food Bank
This past week I toured the Southeast Texas Food Bank in Beaumont to learn more about how they serve the needs of those across the 36th Congressional District of Texas, which includes the counties of Hardin, Jasper, Newton, Orange, Polk, and Tyler. We also discussed ways public officials can help strengthen and support  their mission. The Food Bank partners with over 100 churches and other organizations to address needs across the 36th Congressional District.

Babin: The American People Should Decide Our Next Supreme Court Justice
It is my firm belief that Justice Antonin Scalia's replacement should wait until after this year's presidential election. With so much at stake, it’s critical that the American people have a voice in this process by electing a President who they think will nominate the best candidate. The Supreme Court is not an extension of the White House – and the Senate should not rubber stamp the President’s nominees.

In fact, then-Senators Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and John Kerry voted to filibuster and deny President Bush’s nominee, Samuel Alito, an up-or-down vote. It's been over 80 years since there was a vacancy, nomination and confirmation of a new Supreme Court Justice in a presidential election year. That's why I believe the Senate must stand strong in ensuring Justice Scalia’s replacement waits until the American people have decided on a new President.
ICYMI: Babin Fights to Stop the President's Plan to Bring Guantanamo Jihadists to U.S. Prisons
President Obama recently announced his latest proposal to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba. This time he outlined plans to bring the most dangerous detainees to a U.S. prison. I believe this is an extremely foolish and dangerous course of action. Americans don’t want their security compromised by closing this much needed and proven detention facility.

Not only should this facility remain open, but those held there should be prosecuted under military tribunals as authorized by the U.S. Congress and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. Please take a moment to read more from my recent editorial on this  important issue, by clicking here.
