House Passes Bill to Protect Second Amendment Rights of America's Sportsmen
As an avid outdoorsman and lifelong sportsman, I was proud to vote for the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act (H.R. 2406), which will protect traditional outdoor sporting activities – such as hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting – from the bureaucratic red-tape and crippling EPA regulations that have restricted sportsmen’s access to public lands. I strongly believe that sportsmen across America are bound by shared values handed down by generations, and I am committed to ensuring our traditions are protected.
New Study Ranks Texas 3rd in Nation for U.S. Maritime Jobs, Houston Ranks No. 2
As a former merchant mariner, I was proud to join with the American Maritime Partnership, as well as other local and state stakeholders, at the Kinder Morgan BOSTCO Facility in La Porte in announcing new findings that show Texas ranks 3rd in the nation for U.S. maritime jobs  and Houston ranks 2nd among cities. In the 36th District of Texas, which I'm proud to represent, there are over 4,000 maritime jobs—which provides $969.6 million dollars in economic impact. With a district that is home to one of the largest ports in our nation, this report reminds us how proud we are to not only be a major source of good-paying jobs for Texas but also a leading contributor to our state and national economy.

House Science Committee Holds Hearing on Bringing Stability to NASA
The House Science, Space, and Technology Committee held a hearing this week on the Space Leadership Preservation Act and the need for stability at NASA.  As the House Space Subcommittee Chairman and proud representative of NASA's Johnson Space Center, I believe there is a great deal of promise in the future of space. But if we fail to provide stability for NASA's space exploration programs, we may well lose our leadership in space. And other nations will happily step up. Losing U.S. leadership in space will significantly undermine our national interests, erode our industrial base, undermine our international influence, and cause the loss of a skilled workforce. I, for one, don't want that to happen on my watch.

Snap-shots from the Week
It was an honor to meet former astronaut and first female Space Shuttle pilot and commander, USAF (Retired) Col. Eileen Collins at this past week's House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology hearing.
Enjoyed welcoming this great group of folks who are here representing credit unions from across the 36th District of Texas.
