Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all of the fathers out there! As a father of five and a grandfather of 14, I know how important the role of a father is in the lives of children. I am wishing you all a wonderful day surrounded by your family and loved ones.
Rebuilding Communities Hurt by the Opioid Crisis

The opioid problem has grown at a rapid pace over the past few years and is now a major public health crisis. I’ve met with folks in my district and know that this is not just a national crisis, but a local one. That’s why Congress worked on dozens of bills this past week – with more to come – to ensure that we have a comprehensive approach to the opioid epidemic that can help turn lives and communities back around.

Ensuring NASA and Taxpayers Get the Most Out of Our Space Budget

The Space Subcommittee held a hearing, ‘NASA Cost and Schedule Overruns: Acquisition and Program Management Challenges’ this week. As chairman of the Space Subcommittee, I have a responsibility to every taxpayer to ensure that NASA is being a good steward in managing the resources with which they have been entrusted. The hearing touched on a number of important oversight topics, including acquisitions mechanisms, cost-estimations and NASA program management. NASA’s business decisions matter, as they have lasting implications on its mission success and America's global leadership in space.

 Op-Ed: The Next Space Age

Outer space is the last frontier of human exploration. Unfortunately, the glory days of landing men on the moon are now a distant memory. This is poised to change, however, thanks to the American Space Commerce Free Enterprise Act. I co-authored a SpaceNews op-ed with fellow Texas Representative Lamar Smith on the need to pass this important legislation.

Visiting with Constituents

It was great to visit with this group of students from East Texas, who were in D.C. with the Texas Electric Cooperative.

My wife, Roxanne, was able to give a tour of the White House to the Elswick Family from Baytown, TX. Washington, D.C. is a city where history happens every day, and Roxanne and I both love sharing that history with our constituents whenever we can.

The Potter and the Dunson families came to my office from Livingston, TX. It’s always great to catch up with folks from our area.
