Happy Independence Day |
As we celebrate Independence Day, let us not forget the true cost of freedom. America is the greatest nation on Earth because of those who have sacrificed so much to keep us free and safe. We are truly blessed by God to live in the land of the free – and we are forever grateful to those who have preserved this freedom through their sacrifices in defense of America. As the son of a WWII veteran, a veteran myself, and the father of a decorated Navy SEAL, I have a deep and personal appreciation for the men and women who have served in uniform.

In Congress, I am proud to represent more than 50,000 veterans that call the 36th Congressional District home. I am committed to seeing that these heroes and their families receive the respect and treatment they have undoubtedly earned and deserve.
America has been a beacon of hope and freedom to the world for 243 years. Today, please join me in praying for our nation, that God grants continued wisdom to our country’s leaders, and for the safety of those who are serving in harm’s way to secure the liberties we hold so dear.

The Evening Edit with Liz MacDonald |
Do you remember President Obama being compared to horrific dictators after saying he planned to deport the unaccompanied children crossing our borders in 2014? Neither do I. The hypocrisy continuously displayed by Democrats is just incredible. President Trump is being demonized for doing his job and upholding the law – as previous Administrations have or should have done. If we do not start deporting the criminal aliens whose cases have been adjudicated and are designated for removal, then we are NEVER going to stop or slow down the thousands of people pouring across our borders.
If only Democrats cared about American citizens as much as they care about the well-being of illegal aliens.

Congress Must Ratify the USMCA |
The longer Speaker Pelosi delays in bringing the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) to the House floor for a vote, the more it costs our small and local businesses. The USMCA is the first trade agreement that includes a chapter focusing on small and medium-sized businesses, which represent 98 percent of American exporters.
This agreement cuts red tape at the Canadian and Mexican borders by streamlining customs procedures, saving time and money for American small businesses. It will also require fair and transparent regulatory procedures, eliminating an expensive barrier facing American small businesses in Canada and Mexico. |

Are you kidding me? |
I have traveled to Texas's southern border in El Paso more than once over the past several months, and have spoken at great length with many of our hard-working U.S. Border Patrol agents and ICE officials. They told me about the circumstances they have been forced to endure while doing their job to safeguard our country's borders and keep American citizens safe. For months, Democrats in Congress continuously ignored the depleted resources, overflowing holding centers, and backlogged court dockets – refusing to address the ongoing crisis until last week.
I know firsthand what the migrant facilities look like as well as how crowded they are with the tens of thousands of people continuing to exploit our immigration laws and cross into our nation on a weekly basis.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (AOC) absurd comments that U.S. immigration enforcement officials are making migrants drink toilet water is preposterous. It greatly disappoints me that when she FINALLY chooses to visit the southern border, AOC then elects to spread more misinformation instead of getting on board to fix our broken immigration system and secure our southern border.

President Trump Meets Kim Jung Un in North Korea |
Donald J. Trump has made history yet again as the first sitting U.S. President to step foot into North Korea. This Administration's continued efforts to achieve the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula do not get enough credit from the mainstream media – big surprise. We are closer to a nuclear-free North Korea and stability on the peninsula now, than we have ever been.

TAPS Act Op-Ed in the Capital Gazette |
Ron Schouten and Greg Glod, two professionals in behavioral threat assessment and management, wrote a great op-ed featured in the Capital Gazette from Annapolis, Maryland last week – just a year after the tragedy at the newspaper.
This op-ed illustrates how the implementation of the TAPS Act (H.R. 838) on state and local levels will lead to safer communities, including schools and worship centers, while protecting every individual's privacy. |
