Babin Holds Veterans Council Meeting
We held our most recent Veterans Council Meeting on Tuesday at our Deer Park District Office. These meetings provide a great opportunity for me to hear directly from some of our local veterans and learn more about the issues they are facing with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Thank you to everyone who helped organize and participate in this important discussion. As a veteran myself and father of a decorated Navy SEAL, I have a deep appreciation for the brave men and women who defend our nation and I am committed to making sure that the promises that were made to our veterans are kept. House Passes Legislation to Protect Internet Freedom
On Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives took action to prevent yet another Obama Administration power grab over the Internet. This legislation blocks the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from imposing artificial restraints on broadband Internet rates, which will only stifle private sector competition and restrict public access to the Internet. Simply put, unelected government bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., should not be dictating Internet service rates and options.
Celebrating the Achievements of the Lee College Debate Team
I had the opportunity to present a Congressional Record Proclamation honoring the achievements of the Mendoza Debate Society at Lee College, in Baytown, Texas, for winning their third consecutive victory in the International Public Debate Association (IPDA) National Championship Tournament. Led by Joe Ganakos, the Mendoza Debate Society has become the top-ranked IPDA debate program in Texas for 2015-2016. The debaters achieved this incredible success through their unmatched work ethic and countless hours of practice. I extend my congratulations to Kyle Diamond, Rigo Ruiz, Emmanuel Perez, Josh Lyrock and Jerry McCauley – and I wish them all continued success in their future endeavors.
