Babin Slams Decision Not to Indict Clinton

I felt compelled this week to take to the House floor to speak out against the FBI’s decision not to prosecute former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. We are at a dangerous place as a nation when the law is essentially rewritten for the well-connected and privileged. In fact, this is the very danger that our nation's founding fathers warned us about. The FBI Director's decision that former Secretary Clinton should not be prosecuted for her "extremely careless" mishandling of classified information further erodes our trust in government and confirms everything that we hate about the current state of politics. And it begs the question whether we have a government of laws or a government of the rich and powerful. Or do we have a Department of Justice or a department of “just us”? We may never know how much damage was caused by Clinton’s callous disregard for the law and our national security secrets – but we absolutely have a duty to try and find out.

Babin Urges Action and Toughness After Another Islamic Terror Attack in France
Our prayers are with those who were killed in the terrorist attack in Nice, France, which sadly included several Texans. This is yet another wake-up call to the challenges the free world faces from radical Islamic jihad. The United States – along with our allies around the world – must do more to eradicate this evil that inspires acts of terror worldwide. I will continue to lead efforts to prevent jihad from coming to America. These jihadists have declared war on us and will do all that they can to kill innocent men, women and children. It’s time this Administration takes this threat seriously and works with Congress to secure our borders, restrict refugees coming in from these Middle East hot spots, and puts the safety and security of the American people first.
House Passes Conscience Protection Act to Protect Pro-Life Individuals and Businesses
I voiced my strong support for the Conscience Protection Act, which we passed this week in the House to ensure medical providers and religious institutions are no longer forced to violate their conscience and participate in abortion services. Our nation was founded by those seeking to escape the coercive forces of governments across Europe. This basic freedom is under assault today as radical advocates for abortion are using the coercive forces of federal, state and local governments to compel pro-life individuals, businesses and health care providers to act against their deeply held religious convictions in order to keep a job, hold a medical license, or operate a hospital, clinic or health insurance plan.

House and Senate Pass Babin Amendment to Promote Drone Safety
- President Expected to Sign Into Law -
This week the U.S. House and Senate passed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2016 (H.R. 636), which included an important amendment I offered to set strict new guidelines for the operation of drones near chemical plants and oil refineries. This carefully crafted language, which is expected to be signed into law soon, will ensure both the protection of our oil and gas facilities and their employees from unauthorized drone activity while also respecting the growing business of public and commercial drone use throughout the United States. As the representative of the 36th Congressional District of Texas, which is home to more petrochemical and refining facilities than any other district in the country, I was pleased to have helped secure this much-needed provision and put it on the path to becoming law. I'm heartbroken over the senseless murders of five Dallas police officers. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and all those who have been injured. As fellow Texans, we mourn the loss of these fallen heroes and offer our prayers to the people of Dallas and their law enforcement community. I am thankful for the commitment that our law enforcement community makes to each of us, putting their lives on the line each and every day to make our communities safe. I stand in strong solidarity with our law enforcement and offer each one of them my full support. It’s absolutely critical that our leaders on all levels of government have their backs.
Snap-shots from the Week
I participated in a press conference to announce that the House Science Committee has issued subpoenas to the attorneys general of New York and Massachusetts, as well as eight environmental organizations, to obtain documents related to their coordinated efforts to target companies, nonprofit organizations, scientists and scholars that do not support their political positions. This seems to be nothing more than a political attack on the First Amendment rights of these scientists -- and I look forward to getting more answers.
Our Regional Director of Community Relations, Rachel Iglesias, took these pictures during her visit to the flood Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Woodville, Texas. The facility, which is located at 201 Veterans Way, provides flood victims in the area with a place to ask questions and get guidance on disaster assistance. The hours of operation are from 9am to 6pm on Monday through Friday, 9am to 2pm on Saturday and closed on Sunday.
