Babin Receives Briefing on Security Threats at U.S. Southern Border
|
This week I had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency's El Paso Intelligence Center (DEA-EPIC) with a group of my colleagues to learn more about the threats we face on our southern border from Islamic jihadists, Mexican drug cartels and human traffickers. The DEA-EPIC is crucial in our efforts to protect the U.S. southern border with Mexico from these growing threats. We learned a great deal regarding our intelligence capabilities on the border and their coordination with local and state assets that help keep America safe.

| House Benghazi Committee Releases Its Investigative Report |
The House Select Committee on Benghazi investigative report makes clear that this was an avoidable and tragic failure of leadership that cost us four American lives. The families of Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods – as well as the entire American public – deserve to know the truth about what exactly led to the murder of these four American heroes. Unfortunately, at every turn, the Obama Administration and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have refused to divulge all of the information regarding the attack. Despite their continued obstruction, I applaud Chairman Trey Gowdy and the entire committee for their thorough investigation, which divulged important new information about the failures of this Administration in its response and handling of the terrorist attack. I encourage everyone to read the full report and look at the evidence that was uncovered. To do so, please click here.

| Babin Denounces Supreme Court Decision to Block Texas Abortion Clinic Standards |
|
I was extremely disappointed and saddened by the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision this week to block the common-sense standards put in place in Texas to protect the unborn and safeguard the health and safety of mothers. By allowing abusive and unsanitary conditions at abortion clinics, this ruling puts the interests of the abortion industry above women’s health. The Court's decision also reinforces the critical importance of the upcoming presidential election, which will determine Justice Scalia’s replacement and potentially three other Supreme Court Justices.

| Independence Day Message |
This Monday we pause to commemorate America’s Independence and honor those who have sacrificed so much to keep us free. Our forefathers risked all to secure our principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These lasting principles -- and those who defend them -- have allowed America to serve as a beacon of freedom to the world for 240 years. As we celebrate Independence Day, please join me in praying for our nation, for wisdom for our nation’s leaders and in particular for the safety of those who are serving in harm’s way to secure the liberties we hold so dear.

| Remembering John Edward Cooper |
My deepest condolences to our Orange Office Staff Assistant, Lauren Jones, and her family on the loss of her grandfather, Korean War Veteran SGT John Edward Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a decorated war hero who earned two Bronze Stars defending our nation’s freedom while serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Cooper was also active in the Orange community serving in the Orange Rotary Club, with 55+ years perfect attendance, as well as an active member of First United Methodist Church and Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Cooper loved God, his family, and his country and will be greatly missed.
