U.S. Congressman Brian Babin
America is Breaking Records
The United States is breaking records! Unfortunately, this isn’t a record we want. Last month alone, more than 76,000 illegal immigrants attempted to cross our southern border. As I have said repeatedly, this crisis is very real and something must be done to regain control of America’s borders. Our Border Patrol agents must have the resources they need to meet and apprehend the unprecedented number of immigrants breaking our laws to enter into our country. It is imperative we also address the loopholes in our immigration system that still require ICE and Border Patrol to release illegal aliens, drug traffickers, criminals, and child smugglers into our country to await trial – only for them to disappear into the shadows of the U.S. never to be seen again.

The Truth About H.R. 1
It is telling that Democrats ran on a promise to make the House more open, fair, and transparent to the public, but H.R. 1, their “top legislative priority” for this Congress, does the opposite. After blocking all Republican amendments, Democrats have moved forward with this sham bill to shower Congressional candidates and campaign consultants with your taxpayer dollars. If H.R. 1 became law it would:

✅ Divert millions of federal dollars to Congressional campaigns and elections;

✅ Encourage a culture of fraud and abuse by making it difficult for states to secure elections and maintain voter rolls – leaving the future integrity of our elections in doubt;

✅ Expand government involvement in state elections; and

✅ Diminish Americans' freedom of expression by expanding the definition of political speech, ensuring that more of what you say falls under government regulations while giving new powers to the federal government to control it

This bill is so extremely partisan and harmful to the First Amendment that left-leaning groups like the ACLU refuse to support it. H.R. 1 has been written and structured to benefit Democrats, not the American people. Sadly, this bill was passed in the House on Friday without any Republican votes.

 NTSB Investigators Find Flight Data Recorder
Last Sunday, National Transportation Safety Board investigators retrieved the flight data recorder for Atlas Air Flight 3581 that crashed in Trinity Bay over a week ago. Hopefully this will help shed light on what caused this tragic incident. I’d like to thank all of the investigators, numerous first responders, and many others who have been working incredibly hard to find us all some answers. My staff and I remain engaged with local and federal officials as the investigation continues.

 SpaceX's Crew Dragon Safely Returns to Earth
Welcome home SpaceX's Crew Dragon! Congratulations to the NASA and SpaceX team on their history-making mission demonstration test which concluded Friday morning with a beautiful splashdown off the coast of Florida. This test sets the stage for the first American launch of humans from American soil since the Space Shuttle was retired in 2011.

In the coming days, SpaceX and NASA will be inspecting the vehicle and reviewing mission data to understand all aspects of this flight. While this was an unmanned test, re-establishing U.S. capability for human spaceflight is critically important for our economic competitiveness, national security, and leadership in space.

Again, a hearty congratulations to the entire team!
Maintaining U.S. Leadership in Science and Technology
This week, the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology held a hearing on "Maintaining U.S. Leadership in Science and Technology." The U.S. is unquestionably the frontrunner in space exploration and has been for decades. Other nations use our accomplishments as a model in developing their own space programs. The same applies for our research and technology advancements being made by talented scientist and engineers across the country.

To maintain leadership in this arena, it is imperative that we limit access to our nation’s intellectual property from adversaries. I will continue my work in Congress to ensure America does not surrender its leadership role in the world – especially in science and technology.
Visiting with Members of the Down Syndrome Society
It was great to meet with several constituents who are also members of the Down Syndrome Society this week. We were able to discuss the importance of helping those with intellectual development disabilities into the workforce. Thank you all for stopping by!
 Criminal Aliens More Important than American Citizens
Why are liberal states siding with criminal aliens instead of law abiding Americans? How many more Americans have to suffer harm from an illegal immigrant because of senseless acts like these in California?

To read article, please click here.
More than 3,400 of these 5,600 requests made by federal law enforcement were lodged against illegal criminal aliens charged with crimes like homicide, kidnapping, sexual assault and drug trafficking, yet California is choosing to harbor those breaking our laws. The safety of our citizens is worth more than any political points that can be scored from this absurd grandstanding. The consequences are real!
 Recognizing our Boys and Girls Basketball State Finalists
 Congratulations are due to both the Woodville Lady Eagles and the East Chambers Buccaneers Boys basketball teams for advancing to the Texas State Finals. The Lady Eagles competed in the State Championship game while the Bucs made it to the State Semifinals.
I am very proud to represent such talented and motivated individuals. This is a huge accomplishment, and I applaud the hard work and dedication both teams have shown throughout their respective seasons.
 Remembering the Alamo
Wednesday marked 183 years since the Alamo fell to Santa Anna’s Mexican forces after a 13-day siege. The bravery shown by these 189 Texian defenders echoed throughout the world and rallied their fellow Texians and our nation to their cause.
We will always Remember the Alamo and all those who sacrificed their lives fighting for freedom and independence from a tyrannical government. This week, we “Texans” honored their memory as we recognized one of the seminal events of the birth of the Lone Star State. God bless Texas!
