Celebrating Constitution Day
On September 17, 1787, thirty-nine American visionaries applied their signatures to one of the greatest documents in human history, the United States Constitution.  As we celebrated this tremendous achievement this past week, we are reminded that so many of our bedrock freedoms are under attack. We must recommit ourselves to preserving our Constitutional liberties and defending the rule of law -- as we are a nation governed by law not personalities. With each vote I take on behalf of the people of the 36th Congressional District of Texas, I am reminded of my oath to defend the Constitution, and I will continue to use the Constitution as my guide.  To read my editorial recognizing Constitution Day, please click here.

Rep. Babin speaks with students at Corrigan-Camden High School about the importance of our Constitution.
In anticipation of Constitution Day, I also visited Corrigan-Camden High School this past Monday to speak with students about our nation's founding document, the U.S. Constitution -- as well as hand out pocket Constitutions to each student. It is absolutely critical that our students understand the importance of our Constitution and the need to defend its guiding principles of limited government, freedom and liberty.
Babin Taking Lead to Stop Obama's Refugee Expansion
Interviewed on Hannity
President Obama recently announced his plans to admit at least 10,000 Syrians next year into the U.S. through the refugee resettlement program. For the past decade the U.S. has been admitting roughly 70,000 new refugees a year -- with little understanding of the economic, social and national security risks.

That's why I introduced the Resettlement Accountability National Security Act (H.R. 3314) to immediately suspend the program pending a complete examination of its costs and security threats. In our recent constituent survey, we asked if you supported these efforts. Below are the results. If you did not get a chance to vote, you can do so by clicking here.

Yes (87%)
No (11%)
Need more information (2%)

Like most of you, I believe we are crazy to be inviting the problems of the Middle East into the United States. The U.S. must learn the costs and national security risks of the refugee resettlement program before it admits any more refugees, including Syrian refugees. Our bill will do just that by suspending the resettlement program until we are able to obtain factual information.

Babin Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood and Protect Abortion Survivors
On Friday, I voted to pass the Defund Planned Parenthood Act (H.R. 3134), which strips all federal funding from Planned Parenthood and redirects those funds to Federally Qualified Health Centers and Rural Health Clinics. As you can see below, these facilities are more readily available and provide comprehensive and quality health care services for women without servicing abortions. Redirecting funds away from Planned Parenthood and in support of alternative providers is a better way to invest in and expand women’s health care.
I also voted to pass the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 3504), which ensures medical practitioners who fail to provide the necessary care to children born alive during an abortion are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. A child born alive during an abortion procedure is the most vulnerable living human being – and they should be granted full legal protection.

Enjoyed the opportunity to tour BP's North American headquarters in Houston, as well as hold a town hall meeting with employees.
Had a great visit to the Georgia-Pacific plywood and lumber mill in Camden, Texas. The facilities combined supply 600 jobs to the area. To view more pictures from the tour, please click here.
It was a pleasure to serve as the guest speaker for the West Gulf Maritime Association’s “Transportation Tuesday” meeting. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I enjoyed the opportunity to provide the association an update on all federal transportation matters, including supporting our region’s maritime industry.
