Honoring President George H.W. Bush
|
My heart is heavy over the passing of George H.W. Bush, an exemplary man and patriot whose service to his country ranks him among our most beloved Presidents. President Bush served at the highest levels of our government while setting an unmatched example as a loving husband and father. His legacy will continue to grow after his passing.
Rest in peace, Mr. President.

NASA Day on the Hill
|
I had a great discussion with my friend, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine on Tuesday. He answered many questions I and my Space Subcommittee colleague Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson had about current NASA projects and initiatives. Afterward, I was able to introduce Administrator Bridenstine at NASA Day on the Hill.
While there, my colleague Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (pictured on right) and I had the treat of meeting NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei (pictured in middle) as well as speaking with other NASA employees about the exciting work being done to advance America’s leadership in space.

Recognizing Lamar Smith |
I enjoyed attending the portrait unveiling of my great Texas friend and colleague, Science, Space and Technology Committee Chairman Lamar Smith of San Antonio.
The painting will appropriately hang in the committee hearing room where so much has been accomplished for our nation’s space program. I was proud to serve as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Space over the last four years under his leadership.

Meeting over Hurricane Funds |
I met with officials from FEMA, HUD, SBA, and OMB on Thursday over concerns about Duplication of Benefits and Low to Moderate Income (LMI) requirements for access to Hurricane recovery funds. It is critical that those affected by Hurricane Harvey are able to get the assistance and funding necessary to put their lives back together.

Trip to Mexico City |
I was honored to accompany a Congressional delegation to Mexico City for the inauguration of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. We met many government officials as well as Mexican business and industry representatives to discuss border security and trade. Texas is the largest trading partner with Mexico of any state, and I am looking forward to working with President Lopez Obrador to advance trade policies which benefit the U.S. and Texas.

Remembering Pearl Harbor |
On the morning of December 7, 1941, the skies over Pearl Harbor turned black with smoke as American soldiers fought hundreds of Japanese aircraft as they dropped their bombs on our Pacific Fleet.
As President Roosevelt stated, “a sleeping giant” was awakened that day, and America soon proved to the world that our commitment to freedom could not be sunk with our battleships. This week, we remember all who were lost 77 years ago and the incredible courage displayed by our brave service members that fateful day and the years that followed.
