Babin Calls for Impeachment of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen

Monday marked Tax Day – bringing another painful reminder of our costly and broken federal tax code and the lack of transparency and accountability displayed by those who enforce it -- the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). With such a troubled and incompetent record, it’s hard for me to imagine how anyone could trust the IRS.
I believe IRS Commissioner John Koskinen is the biggest obstacle to fixing the IRS after he blatantly lied under oath and misled Congressional investigators in his support for Lois Lerner and her track record of deceit and obstruction. Simply put, it’s time for him to go. As a cosponsor of legislation to impeach Commissioner Koskinen, I have called on Congressional leaders to bring that bill forward. American taxpayers deserve better and we need to turn the page on Mr. Koskinen’s failed leadership.

| House Votes to Rein in IRS and Hold Agency Accountable to Taxpayers |
This week the House passed a series of bills with my support to rein in the IRS and bring much-need accountability to what I believe is a corrupt agency. We took steps to end the politicization of the IRS that has targeted conservative Americans, we voted to eliminate the IRS slush fund that allows the agency to skirt congressional authority and we voted to make sure that IRS employees are held to the same standards as taxpayers by ensuring no new employees are delinquent on their taxes. These are common sense steps that need to be taken - and I was proud to support them.

We were very excited to welcome Pastor Danny Biddy, who leads the Old River Baptist Church in Dayton, to Washington, D.C. this week to speak at The Jefferson Gathering in the U.S. Capitol. This weekly Christian worship service is open to Members of Congress and their staff giving them an opportunity to join together in prayer for America and our leaders. We very much enjoyed Pastor Biddy’s inspiring message and having him and his wife, Dana, and many others from the area participate in this special gathering.
