Urges Immediate Action after Islamic Terrorist Attacks in NY, NJ, & MN

I was featured on Fox News' Special Report with Bret Baier this week discussing my latest effort in Congress to stop the refugee resettlement program from terrorist hotbeds. After the terrorist bombings in New York and New Jersey and the stabbings in Minnesota, it is common-sense that we take a step back and reevaluate these failed refugee and asylum policies that are carelessly letting folks into our country who intend to do us harm. Just this week we also learned that the Obama Administration mistakenly granted U.S. citizenship to at least 858 individuals from countries designated as high-risk. This Administration simply cannot be trusted to properly screen Syrian refugees for security risks!
While the attitude from Washington’s elite is that it is our responsibility to bring these folks in and that the American people just need to get over it – I could not disagree more vigorously. We must ensure that our refugee and immigration policies only let in those who embrace America’s values. And it is more important than ever that we restrict those coming in from the world’s hot spots of terrorism and close the security loopholes in our inept and porous immigration, refugee and visa programs. It’s time to set aside the blinders of political correctness that are literally getting American citizens killed.

House Votes to Prevent Iran Ransom Payments and Rein in Costly Executive Overreach |

This week, the House passed the Prohibiting Future Ransom Payments to Iran Act (H.R. 5931), which will clearly define in law that is illegal to pay cash payments to Iran. While the President continues to mislead the American people to think otherwise, his Administration violated longstanding U.S. policy by releasing prisoners and sending a $400 million ransom payment to Iran in return for four Americans hostages. Our legislation will ensure this does not happen again by making it clear that such transactions are unlawful and threaten America’s national security.
The House also passed the Require Evaluation before Implementing Executive Wishlists (REVIEW) Act (H.R. 3438), which requires federal agencies to postpone implementation of any regulation imposing an annual cost of more than $1 billion if litigation challenging the rule is brought within 60 days. The Obama Administration has imposed more than $20 billion in rules. Our bill will ensure the economy does not lose billions of dollars due to legally flawed regulations.
