Important Update From Congressman Babin on His Efforts to Stop Syrian Refugee Influx
“I’m working to stop the massive influx of refugees from hotbeds of terrorism. The weekly, if not daily, radical Islamic terror attacks in Europe show us the real danger of this policy.” – REP. BRIAN BABIN

On July 27, 2015, I introduced legislation (H.R. 3314) to stop the refugee resettlement program until Congress(1) completes a full national security review to make sure terrorists are not being let into the U.S. and (2) gets a full accounting of the costs of the refugee program to federal, state and local taxpayers. According to ABC News, the Iraqi refugee program was shut down in 2011 because terrorists had infiltrated it to enter the U.S., so this is not unprecedented.

My sworn duty is to put the safety and security of the American people first – and our broken refugee admission program violates that oath. With each attack by radical Islamic terrorists in the U.S. and Europe, more of my colleagues have awakened to the risks it poses to the security of the American people.

H.R. 3314 now has the backing of 85 of my colleagues who have cosponsored our bill. While dozens of other bills have been introduced to address the refugee program, they fall short of H.R. 3314, which pushes the pause button on this broken program until we can make security changes.

Sadly, rather than caution in the face of growing terrorist attacks, I believe the President has only doubled down on his plans to bring 10,000 poorly vetted Syrian refugees into the U.S. by October 1, 2016. This comes despite testimony by the FBI Director that they cannot properly screen Syrian refugees for security risks.

Also, a very small fraction of these Syrian refugees resettled in the U.S. have been Christians – the most persecuted group in Syria. In fact, since July, only 23 Christians have been resettled as part of the more than 6,700 Syrians.

Look at Paris, Brussels, Nice, Normandy, Wuerzberg, Nuremberg, Germany, and Istanbul – the number of terrorists attacks across Europe have grown daily because European elected officials have sacrificed the safety of their own citizens on the altar of political correctness.

We must learn from Europe’s mistakes not repeat them here. That’s what H.R. 3314 is all about – preventing future attacks like those in Orlando, Boston, Chattanooga, San Bernardino, Ft. Hood and on 9/11.

In 2015, the federal agency responsible for deporting criminal aliens – Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – released 19,732 criminal aliens back onto America’s streets.

According to ICE data, these criminal aliens committed a total of 8,234 violent crimes, including:

                ✓ 208 homicides
                 1,347 cases of domestic violence
                 1,300+ weapons offenses
12,000+ driving under the influences (DUI) violations

Furthermore, a June 2016 report by the Boston Globe found that of the “323 criminals released in New England, between 2008 and 2013, as many as 30% committed new offenses including rape, attempted murder, and child molestation – a rate that is markedly higher than ICE officials have suggested to Congress in the past.”

Rep. Babin receives briefing from U.S. Border Patrol on border security.

Among them was an illegal immigrant named Jean Jacques, whose native Haiti refused to take him back after he served seventeen years for attempted murder. Within six months of his release from prison, Jacques murdered Casey Chadwick in New London, Conn. Had Haiti been compelled to take Jacques back, Casey would be alive today.

I introduced the Criminal Alien Deportation Enforcement Act, which will cut off foreign aid and all travel and immigration visas to any nation that refuses to take back their criminal aliens. This is a common-sense step that will put the safety of American citizens, like Casey Chadwick, first.

I can also report that we have taken a number of steps to deport criminal aliens and hold ICE accountable. This includes:

               • Eliminating federal funding for sanctuary cities (H.R. 2942)

               • Preventing illegal border crossings (H.R. 1149)

               • Defunding Obama’s Executive Amnesty (H.R. 191)

               • Successfully suing The Administration to block Amnesty.

Here I am pictured with over 20 feet of regulations issued by unelected, unaccountable federal bureaucrats over just the last 18 months. This is why Americans are so fed up with Washington. I voted for the REINS Act to stop bureaucratic madness. To expand and share image, please click here
