President Trump Signs Into Law Historic Tax Relief and Reform Bill for American People
This week, Congress passed and the President signed into law the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act -- landmark legislation that overhauls America’s tax code to deliver historic tax relief for American workers, families and job creators. By cutting taxes for all Americans, eliminating special interest loopholes, doubling the child tax credit and lowering the tax burden on businesses, our bill increases paychecks, creates more jobs and makes the tax code simpler and fairer for hardworking Middle-Class Americans.

My priority is to make sure our tax code works for the average American taxpayer. Under the current system, it is the well-connected who have benefited. Our bill eliminates special interest carve outs for lawyers and lobbyists and returns taxpayer money to its rightful owners: hardworking Americans, job creators and savers.

The bottom line is that our bill reduces taxes for all Americans and saves the average American family between $1,000 and 2,000 a year. For American workers, this tax reform bill creates more jobs right here in the U.S. by lowering the tax burden on small and large businesses. Currently, U.S. businesses pay the highest tax rate of any industrialized country at 35%.
Our bill finally overhauls our broken tax code and puts the American taxpayer first while igniting the American economy and building on the already remarkable economic growth we have seen under the Trump Administration. This is truly an exciting and historic moment for the American people.

In fact, we are already seeing the benefits as companies are announcing new investments and new raises for their employees:

AT&T is giving 200,000 employees a $1,000 bonus and investing $1 billion more in the U.S. economy.

Boeing is going to make a $300 million employee investment.

Wells Fargo and Fifth Third Bancorp are both hiking minimum wage pay to $15/hour.

Comcast will give $1,000 bonuses to 100,000 non-executive employees.

This is only the start. Under our tax relief bill, Americans will continue to see bigger paychecks, more jobs and a stronger economy. It's a new day in America!
House Passes Harvey Relief Bill that Provides Billions for Recovery and Prevention Projects
This week, the House passed $81 billion in new disaster recovery funds to provide for relief for Hurricane Harvey victims, including crucial flood mitigation projects. In addition to funding Texas’s ongoing recovery needs, we have succeeded in securing billions of dollars to prevent future flooding of our homes and communities. Texas could be eligible for up to $15 billion in aid, including a $10.5 billion pool for flood mitigation projects. Many of our key regional projects can move forward with this funding, some of which are already authorized and awaiting funding – others which require updated studies and assessment as a crucial first step.

Poll Question:
Whose money is it anyway?

With the passage of the largest tax cut in U.S. history, hardworking Americans can now keep more of what they earn. But some politicians and government bureaucrats in Washington are now upset because they won’t be able to decide where your money is spent. This begs the question: Whose money is it anyway? Your money or Washington’s money? Please make your voice heard and vote by clicking here.
Snap-shots from the Week
Our Regional Director of Community Relations, Lanie Brown, presented U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Katie Cogbill of Orange, Texas with a Congressional Record Statement that I offered on the House floor celebrating and recognizing her service, hard work and dedication to her family and country. Airman Cogbill was recently honored with the 19th Airlift Wing Airman of the Year Award.
Pleased to present our friends at Space Center Houston with a Congressional Record Statement celebrating its 25th anniversary. At Space Center Houston you can see the history and future of human spaceflight under one roof, including a one-of-a-kind exhibit displaying the world’s only shuttle replica (Independence) mounted on an original Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. Since opening in 1992, Space Center Houston has welcomed nearly twenty million visitors and currently hosts nearly one million visitors annually as the Official Visitor Center of NASA's Johnson Space Center.
Great to meet Ty and Angie Winstead and their kids Audrey, Tristan, and Liam after their tour of the U.S. Capitol. Ty was stationed in Orange, Texas with the Army National Guard to assist in the emergency response effort for Hurricane Harvey. We are very grateful for him and his families service and sacrifice.
