It's Time to End Sanctuary Cities and Put the Security of the American People First
|
The consequences of government-sanctioned lawlessness are real – and the tragic killing of Kathryn Steinle at the hands of a five-time deported illegal alien in San Francisco should have never happened.
On Friday, I spoke on the House floor to urge my colleagues to take immediate action to end sanctuary city policies to make sure that criminal aliens are deported. It’s time to put the safety of American citizens first! To watch the video, please click here.

| Babin Discusses Need for Congress to Act to Defend Traditional Marriage and Religious Freedom |
Last week, I joined my colleague and good friend Congressman Steve King in discussing our shared disappointment in the Supreme Court's same-sex marriage ruling and how it sets the government on a collision course with the religious freedoms guaranteed in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. To watch the video, please click here.
Americans with religious conviction will now be forced into a position of great uncertainty. If their religious beliefs conflict with same-sex marriage, they may lose their business license and they could be subjected to prosecution or even litigation. In response, I will work tirelessly on all fronts to defend traditional marriage and the protection of religious liberties granted under our U.S. Constitution. Babin Demands Answers from EPA Administrator on Ozone Regulations
|
On Thursday, I asked EPA Administrator McCarthy how she would personally justify a job loss to a family under the EPA's proposed ozone standards, which will be the most expensive regulation in U.S. history – costing Texans billions of dollars and thousands of jobs per year. While not surprising, Ms. McCarthy refused to answer the question and address the serious economic impact these regulations will have on Southeast Texans. To view the video, please click here.

| House Votes to End No Child Left Behind and Restore Local Control in Education |
This past week I joined my conservative colleagues in passing the Student Success Act (H.R. 5), which takes some major steps to repealing much of NCLB and returning power and authority to where it belongs – with parents! This important legislation will also:
• Eliminates more than 69 ineffective, duplicative and unnecessary programs and replaces this maze of programs with the flexibility they need to set their own education priorities rather than having that dictated from Washington.
• Repeals burdensome federal mandates relating to teachers and local school budgets that only hamper innovation and hamstring the ability of local schools to address the unique needs of their students.
• Prohibits the Secretary of Education from coercing states to adopt Common Core.
• Cuts the number of federal bureaucrats at the Department of Education, which I view as a first step toward eliminating the failed federal Department of Education.
