Recognizing a Local Hero |
It was an honor to present Orangefield High School student Bode Fountain (pictured, along with his parents, Shavon and Brady Fountain) with a Special Certificate of Congressional Recognition for his heroic efforts to help save a drowning victim at Panama City Beach. Bode is a brave young man who saw someone who needed help, acted swiftly, and saved a life as a result. We are all very proud of you, Bode! |
Tax Cuts: Promise Made, Promise Kept |
Another promise made, another promise kept from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act: the IRS just revealed its postcard-sized form that many Americans will be able to use starting next year. This updated, simpler, postcard reflects more of the reforms Republicans made to the tax code last year that will save Americans time, money, and stress, when they file their taxes from now on.
Find out more about the new postcard here. |
Supporting Hurricane Recovery |
Several of my Houston-area colleagues and I recently met at the White House with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mick Mulvaney (pictured). We urged him to release the emergency funding that Congress approved months ago for hurricane recovery as soon as possible so that we can complete numerous essential projects across southeast Texas. We also spoke about the need to move forward with the long-delayed Cedar Bayou project, which is critical to economic development.

Ending DOJ Obstruction |
Congress recently passed H. Res 970, a resolution calling for an end to obstructive practices by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). For more than a year, DOJ has failed to comply with various subpoenas and document requests issued by the U.S. Congress. They have refused to hand over key documents to Congressional investigators on possible misconduct by DOJ and FBI officials, as well as those relating to the Clinton Foundation and questionable FISA court filings.
As Americans, we should all be concerned by these actions. I am hopeful that this resolution is a step in the right direction to end this obstruction.

Constituent Snap-Shots |
It was great to speak with the Rotary Club of Orange last week. We discussed issues impacting folks in Texas, including hurricane recovery, tax cuts and regulatory relief. Thanks to Rotary Club President Natasha Garret (pictured), and the entire group for having me.
It was a pleasure to visit with these three great families from TX-36 - the Anderson family from Livingston, the Coley family from Clear Lake, and the Buchanan family from Crosby (all pictured). I always enjoy having the opportunity to welcome folks from home to Washington, D.C. before they begin their U.S. Capitol tour. Let us know if you are ever coming to town!
