Imelda Recovery Begins
The damage and destruction of Tropical Storm Imelda can be seen across Southeast Texas today – but so too can the compassion, generosity, and determination of our people. Thanks to the efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard, local law enforcement, city officials, churches, charities, and good citizens across our region, the immediate recovery began right away and is getting stronger every day.
Over the last two days, I have seen the effects of this storm firsthand from high above and on the ground. For many communities and individuals who were finally beginning to see their long awaited recovery from Harvey, Imelda has been a devastating setback – in some cases even worse than the 2017 storm – while many other find themselves flooded for the first time in recent memory.
In Washington, we are already at work coordinating with the White House, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and others to help respond to this storm and ensure that our Harvey-related projects and recovery efforts are adjusted to meet these new challenges. It will be a long process, but it has to be done and it will.
God Bless Texas, and all those helping us through this most challenging time.
Reps. Babin and Weber Request POTUS Deliver an Immediate Federal Disaster Declaration for Regions of Southeast Texas
On Thursday, I joined Congressman Randy Weber in sending a letter to President Donald Trump requesting he act swiftly to deliver a Federal Disaster Declaration to the regions of Southeast Texas impacted by Tropical Storm Imelda once Governor Greg Abbott makes such a request.

Ensuring that the residents of Texas’s 36th Congressional District are safe and have access to the resources they need in Imelda's aftermath is my top priority at this time. I know many people received water in their homes, and my staff and I will do everything we can to help those impacted by this storm in their recovery process.

Democrats Continue to Waste Time
The American people see through these sham proceedings that will lead absolutely NOWHERE. This hoax is unending – even left-leaning media networks know these hearings are pointless.

This Democrat majority has CHOSEN to squander their time and resources – supplied by YOUR tax dollars – on an investigation that has been over for nearly six months. Instead of passing meaningful legislation to secure our southern border and protect our communities from mass violence, Americans are forced to hit replay on the same run-down video every single day.
U.S. Service Academy and ROTC Forum
We had a fantastic turn out at the U.S. Service Academy and ROTC Forum that I hosted last Saturday with Congressman Randy Weber.
I would like to thank those who were able to make the drive, and hope many of your questions about you, your child, or student potentially attending a military academy or ROTC program were answered.
As a veteran, and the father of United States Naval Academy graduate, my role in selecting our nation’s future military leaders is an honor and privilege that I do not take lightly.

After being flooded many times over the last few years, my district office in Orange has officially moved to its new location in the recently opened Orange City Hall.

Welcoming the Australian Prime Minister at the White House
Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, and wife, Jenny Morrison, were in town this week. Roxanne and I were glad to attend the arrival ceremony.
Americans and Australians have fought side by side for more than a century to combat threats all across the globe. Australia is an invaluable ally, and our strong alliance will continue long into the future.
I also met three great U.S. Army sergeants at the ceremony: Sergeant First Class Davis of California (left), Sergeant First Class Sather of Texas (middle), and Master Sergeant Wilson of Port Arthur, Texas. I was born in Port Arthur so we had a lot to discuss!
Meeting with the Mayor of Baytown
I sat down with the Mayor of Baytown, Brandon Capetillo, the Baytown City Manager, Rick Davis, and other city officials on Tuesday to discuss a number of important issues, including how to decrease roadway congestion – especially during rush hour.

The House Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee held a hearing this week to receive an update on the statuses of numerous projects at NASA, including SLS (Space Launch Systems), Orion, and more. Listen to my opening statement below!

Progress in Building the Border Wall
I am excited to report that, thanks to President Trump, more progress is being made with the construction of the wall on our southern border! This is great news.

Our President has not stopped fighting to secure or southern border. If only Congress could come together and help, but House Democrats show time and again their unwillingness to work with us or compromise.
Joining Gold Star Moms on Constitution Day
Tuesday, on Constitution Day, I stood with several Gold Star moms to remember those who have paid the ultimate price defending our freedom.
America’s Gold Star Families will always hold a special place in my heart, and thanks to their work the legacies, memories, and sacrifices of those we have lost in combat will NEVER be forgotten.
Photos of the Week
It was a privilege for my staff and me to welcome the MacAnally Family from Houston (first photo) and the Hare Family from Lumberton (second photo) to our nation's capital this week.
We are all always eager to meet folks from TX-36 when they are visiting Washington. If you are planning a trip, please reach out to my office!
Visiting with Herschel Walker
During the Republican retreat last weekend, I heard a moving testimony from former Dallas Cowboys running back, Herschel Walker. Herschel is not only an outstanding athlete, but also an upstanding Christian, American patriot, and role model for our youth. It was a tremendous honor to meet him and hear his story.
POW-MIA Recognition Day
Friday marked POW-MIA Recognition Day. It is important to remember the Americans who were prisoners of war and honor those who served and never returned home.
Happy Birthday to the U.S. Air Force
The U.S. Air Force celebrated its 72nd birthday on Wednesday! Thank you to our courageous airmen – past and present – for your dedicated service to our nation. I am proud to have had the opportunity to serve. Thought I would share a photo of me as a young captain (circa 1976). Aim High, Fly-Fight-Win!
