Babin Reflects on 15th Anniversary of 9/11
Today is solemn day. Fifteen years ago, America was attacked by a group of cowards that embraced a dangerous and radical jihadist ideology. We lost over 3,000 of our fellow Americans – including 400 police and firefighters. As the scars of that day remain, it is a moment in history that must never be forgotten.

Today, as we pause and reflect on the 15th anniversary of 9/11, let us remember the families of those who still mourn the loved ones they lost. Let us also remember that the evil and dark ideology that carried out the 9/11 attacks has entered a new and dangerous phase through ISIS. As a nation, now more than ever, we must strengthen our resolve to defeat this evil. We cannot afford to embrace the willful blindness that many in Washington advocate. As an elected official, I took an oath to protect the American people and I believe that it is the duty of the federal government to do everything within its power to stop future 9/11s.
Sadly, fifteen years after 9/11, our southern border remains unsecured, our visa entry program is still broken, and our UN-led refugee program continues to leave a gaping hole in our national security. These abysmal, reckless and dangerous policies that leave the American citizens at risk must be fixed. On this fateful day – as our hearts and minds go out to those who were lost – let us recommit ourselves to defeating terrorism. While this will not be easy, it is a battle we can and must win. Let this year’s anniversary be a rallying cry to do more – and prevent another 9/11 from ever happening again.
Honoring the Life and Legacy of Conservative Icon and Great American Phyllis Schlafly
On Monday, conservative icon and founder of the Eagle Forum, Phyllis Schlafly, passed away at the age of 92. Phyllis was a courageous and determined leader who spent her entire adult life fighting for America and our traditional family values. She stood up and spoke up when others did not.

She was a fearless and outspoken defender of the unborn – and a leading voice in protecting America’s sovereignty and supporting the U.S. military. Until her final day on Earth, Phyllis Schlafly fought tirelessly for these common sense principles and the conservative foundations that have made America strong. She never stopped exposing the absurdity of the liberal left and the appalling failures of the policies they advocate.

Often referred to as the “First Lady of the Conservative Movement,” Phyllis Schlafly’s leadership, candor and tenacity was a breath of fresh air – and it will be greatly missed. While we have lost a powerful voice and advocate for the American people, we can be certain that Phyllis Schlafly’s tremendous pride in America and passion for the conservative movement will undoubtedly live on and continue to inspire future conservative leaders for generations to come. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Schlafly family during this very difficult time.

Babin: Our Enemies No Longer Fear Us

The sad reality about North Korea’s latest nuclear test is that our enemies no longer fear repercussions from President Obama and the United States. This is the same President that failed to enforce a red line against Syria and paid a $1.7 billion ransom payment to Iran. Congress passed a strong sanctions bill against North Korea that was signed into law earlier this year – and it is time the President enforces these sanctions to their fullest extent.
Snap-shots from the week
During a ceremony on the steps of the Capitol to mark the 15th anniversary of 9/11, I had the opportunity to meet the parents of a young man who was killed in the World Trade Center. It was a humbling reminder of what this day really means and the pain it has caused so many.
The Texas Space Congressional Caucus met with Dr. Ellen Ochoa, former astronaut, and current Director of NASA's Johnson Space Center (JSC). We had a great discussion on JSC and America's space program.
