Babin Supports Initiatives to Arm U.S. Service Members
This past week I joined 69 of my colleagues in urging the Secretary of Defense to make immediate changes to allow service members to carry firearms at military installations, bases, and reserve centers. This will ensure these trained professionals can defend themselves at all times from a cowardly enemy who has sworn to do them harm.

I also cosponsored the Enhancing Safety at Military Installations Act (H.R. 3115), which eliminates DoD directives that ban military personnel from carrying firearms on U.S. installations and recruiting centers. Our bill directs the DoD to identify a plan that will appropriately arm our trained military personnel to ensure they are protected at U.S. installations, including military recruitment centers.
House Votes to Crack Down on Sanctuary Cities
On Thursday, the House passed, with my support, the Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act (H.R. 3009), legislation I have cosponsored to cut off federal funding for sanctuary cities, which purposely ignore federal immigration laws and threaten the safety of our communities. This vote sends a clear message that these irresponsible and dangerous policies will not be tolerated. While this is an important first step, more must be done to restore the rule of law and ensure the safety and security of the American people from illegal criminal aliens.

In our recent constituent survey question, we asked what you thought Congress should do to put an end to the loose immigration policies that have led to the death of American citizens. Here are the results:

Impose a mandatory five year sentence for any adult illegal alien caught crossing into U.S. for a second time (Kate’s Law). (17.4%)
Enact policies that force foreign countries to take back criminal aliens caught in the U.S. (18.3%)
Cut off all federal funding that goes to sanctuary cities like San Francisco; who allow illegal immigrants, including criminal aliens, to live without fear of deportation. (20.4%)
End catch and release policies by mandating ICE agents detain any - illegal alien charged with violent crimes until they are convicted or deported. (20.8%)
Make it a federal crime for city official to defy federal immigration laws. (18.6%)
Nothing, I support the President's immigration policies. (1.5%)
Other (2.9%)
Babin Urges Action in Response to Planned Parenthood Disclosures
I spoke on the House floor this past week to express my outrage over the recent disclosures of Planned Parenthood’s deliberate efforts to harvest tissue from aborted babies. The practices described in these videos are simply despicable, unspeakable and barbaric. I call on Congress to immediately pass legislation that I have cosponsored, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act (H.R. 3134), to prohibit taxpayer funds from going to Planned Parenthood while a full investigation is conducted into the organization’s activities.

Apollo 11 Moon Landing Anniversary
Last Monday, 46 years ago, Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first men to walk on the moon after reaching the surface in their Apollo 11 lunar module. This tremendous and inspiring moment continues to serve as a reminder of what we can accomplish as a nation and the opportunities that still exist in human spaceflight exploration.

Had the pleasure of meeting Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer at the Conservative Opportunity Society breakfast. Ambassador Dermer shared with us the clear and present dangers posed to our close-ally Israel as a result of the President's bad deal with Iran.
I spoke with Scott Lawrence of KFDM News about a number of issues including the Iran deal, local unemployment, rebuilding Highway 87, and much more.

As Congress reconvened on Monday, all flags at the U.S. Capitol were lowered to half-staff to honor the four Marines and one Sailor tragically killed in the recent terrorist attack in Chattanooga. These service members, as well as their families and loved ones, continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
It was nice running into Robert Curbeam, a former Naval Aviator and three-time NASA space shuttle astronaut, on Capitol Hill this past week. Mr. Curbeam is now Raytheon's Vice President for Mission Assurance and Quality for the Patriot missile defense system, the JLENS surveillance system, and the Space Fence system.
