Update on District Travels
Throughout the month of August, I have traveled across the 36th Congressional District and visited numerous organizations, businesses, and facilities as well as participated in a series of events, tours, and roundtables.
Touring the R.C. Thomas Hydroelectric Project
The R.C. Thomas Hydroelectric Project at Lake Livingston is coming along greatly. The citizens of Polk County are proud of what has been accomplished so far, and excited about what is to come!
It was fantastic to see the progress they have made since I attended the ground-breaking event in 2015.
The 24-megawatt facility will have the capacity to help power roughly 12,000 homes.
Deer Park Pastors Roundtable
As a Congressman whose life is guided by my Christian faith, I believe that holding roundtables with church leaders from our district is very important. On Wednesday morning, I spoke at length with several religious leaders from across Southeast Harris County at Central Baptist Church in Deer Park.
A wide range of topics were discussed including being a Christian leader in the community, pro-life legislation, rejecting anti-Semitism, and church and community safety.
Speaking with Harris County Businesswomen
I traveled to Pasadena on Tuesday to meet with a large delegation of businesswomen from across our community. Those in attendance own businesses in Pasadena, Clear Lake, Deer Park, La Porte, Nassau Bay, Seabrook, and Webster.
Attendees had the opportunity to share their concerns and comments about issues facing local establishments, our community, and nation.

Nothing can help me better represent women in business than hearing directly from those who have such an important role in the success of our region. I look forward to participating in more meetings like this in the future.

U.S. Service Academy and ROTC Forum
ATTENTION: If you know an 8-12th grader interested in attending a military service academy after high school or in joining ROTC, Congressman Randy Weber and I will be hosting a U.S. Service Academy and ROTC Forum in a few short weeks. Students, parents, guardians, and educators will be able to visit with representatives from each of the academies, along with ROTC program leaders, to get information on the application process and the role of an officer in our military. Mark your calendars and join us on Saturday, September 14!
Sitting Down with Jasper United
It was a pleasure to sit down with Jasper United recently to learn of their upcoming projects to serve the community.
Dinner with Texas Farm Bureau Members
It is always great to join members of Texas Farm Bureau, especially when they choose the historic Pickett House Restaurant in Woodville for supper!

Viewing Hardin County's New Court Room
I enjoyed visiting with Hardin County's Judge, Wayne McDaniel, while viewing their newly remodeled court room last week.
Dropping by the Special Angels Rodeo in Orange
I am so glad that I was able to stop and see my good friend Logan Archer last Wednesday at the Special Angels Rodeo in Orange. There were many wonderful folks freely giving their time to make sure the event was a success. The hearts of volunteers are always special!
Talking Health with Houston's Bay Area Healthcare Committee
This week, I had a very informative meeting with Houston's Bay Area Healthcare Committee where we discussed the potential consequences that "Medicare For All" would bring if implemented. This disastrous proposal would eliminate private health insurance and force everyone into a one-size-fits-all, single-payer, government plan. More than 150 million Americans would lose coverage if such a policy were implemented.
We also touched on the ongoing opioid epidemic as well as the soaring cost of prescription drugs in the U.S. - putting unnecessary stress and financial burden on patients.
Visiting GRACE Pregnancy Outreach Center in Livingston
The Board of Directors and staff at the Grace Pregnancy Outreach Center in Livingston took the time to show me their facilities on Thursday afternoon.
Their testimonies were inspirational, and it was very encouraging to see the passion that goes into their service.
 Honoring Coach W.T. Johnston
It was a tremendous privilege to present Debbie Johnston with a Congressional Record statement honoring the life of her late husband – Newton Championship Coach, W.T. Johnston.
Coach Johnston not only led the Newton Eagle football team to numerous victories during his tenure as head coach, including two state championships in 2017 and 2018, he also chose to lead by example off of the field.
The life Coach Johnston lived and the legacy he left behind will be remembered and carried by the many lives he touched and forever changed. His story continues to inspire us all to be better people and know that every person has a purpose.
Mont Belvieu Small Business Roundtable
I have said this many times, but small businesses are the backbone of our economy. It is important to ensure these vital businesses have a voice on the federal level.

As a small business owner for more than 35 years and now as your Congressman, I spoke from personal experience about the importance of job creation, government regulations, international trade agreements and most importantly –  the profound effect local businesses have on the economy and surrounding community.
Thanks to those from West Chambers County communities of Beach City, Cove, Mont Belvieu, and Baytown for attending.
