House Passes Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act |
This week, I was proud to cast my vote in support of H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, legislation that I cosponsored and actively supported to allow law-abiding citizens who are qualified to carry concealed firearms in one state to also carry in other states that allow residents to do so. As a lifelong gun owner and fervent supporter of the Second Amendment, I was proud to support this common sense bill and empower law-abiding citizens with the ability to exercise their constitutional rights as they travel across state lines.

Constitutional rights do not end at state lines and this includes an individual’s ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights. The current system is too confusing and unfortunately results in some concealed carry permit holders to unknowingly break the law and suffer arrest, while preventing others from carrying over state lines at all. Our bill corrects this infringement on American’s Second Amendment rights and allows concealed carry permit holders the ability to travel freely between states – just like the way a driver’s license works. |
Babin Joins Local Truckers in Baytown to Rally Support Against Expensive Transportation Mandate
|
I was proud to join dozens of local truckers in Baytown, Texas on Monday and rally support to block the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate. I am working hard to protect our independent truckers from this misguided regulation and prevent a major disruption to the freight and shipping network just one week before Christmas.

If the ELD mandate is not delayed, we’ll see the cost of consumer goods increase as shipping costs rise. This is a regulatory burden from the Obama era and it's going to take an executive order by the President to delay this until we can work these bugs out. We hope that President Trump will hear these thousands, some say as many as a million of them out there, who feel like their livelihoods are being taken away from them.
Babin Applauds President Trump's Courageous Decision to Recognize Jerusalem as Israel's Capital
|
This week, President Trump delivered on another campaign promise in announcing America’s official recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and instructing the State Department to begin the process of relocating the U.S. Embassy to Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. I applaud the President for his courage and leadership in making this historic decision, which is long overdue. Having first been expressed in the Jerusalem Recognition Act of 1995 and reaffirmed by a unanimous vote in the Senate just six months ago, the President's action has strong, bipartisan support in Congress. I commend the President for his unwavering commitment to our close-ally Israel.

House Space Subcommittee Holds Hearing on NASA’s Futue Telescope Plans
|
This week, I chaired a House Space Subcommittee hearing on NASA’s future telescope plans. In May of this year, the James Webb Space Telescope arrived at Johnson Space Center (JSC) for a final round of cryogenic testing. We should be very proud of the work our JSC team did in testing the James Webb Telescope. NASA is currently conducting large and medium mission concepts studies for the 2020 Decadal Survey.
New concepts like in-space assembly, in-space servicing and taking advantage of the proposed Deep Space Gateway when developing architectures for very large space telescopes could offer tremendous new capabilities. Our oversight hearing focused on accountability and cost-containment while making sure we achieve the goals of these programs. Click here to see what our Hubble investments have brought us.
