Democrat Majority Passes Another Sham Bill |
Don’t be fooled by the so-called “Protecting Americans with Pre-existing Conditions Act of 2019” (H.R. 986) that passed in the House Thursday evening. Although the bill’s name implies that the legislation protects Americans with pre-existing conditions, its content in reality has absolutely nothing to do with its lofty title. This bill is yet another messaging ploy from the left and reinforces once again that Democrats running the House are for the politics and NOT for the people.
No part of this bill actually protects individuals with pre-existing conditions. Instead, H.R. 986 aims to repeal parts of President Trump’s successful expansion of certain provisions that give states more flexibility to pursue innovative strategies in order to lower premium costs and offer quality health care.
Democrats continue to mislead and distract the American people from their true agenda – a complete government takeover of health care. It is clear by the disaster of Obamacare that Washington does not know best, but House Democrats are doubling down anyway.
This is another sham bill that stands ZERO chance of being signed into law. The only thing it has done, and will ever do, is waste a week of time we could have used to address the real challenges we face as a nation like the humanitarian and national security crisis at our southern border.

Over 1% of Guatemala and Honduras Populations in US |
More than 1% of the populations of Guatemala and Honduras have entered into the US over the last several months. Since December, nearly 170,000 asylum seekers have been released into the interior of our country to await their court date – most are never seen again. This cannot keep happening!
Migrants know that if they illegally cross our borders and claim asylum, they have a free ticket to remain in our country indefinitely. Our immigration facilities cannot sustain this and neither can the nation. Democrats must get on board with the fact that there is a real crisis happening at the border and it cannot continue to be ignored.

Security Matters Press Conference |
It was a privilege to join White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway, Gold Star mom Debbie Lee, Rep. Liz Cheney, and several other House members at the Security Matters press conference on Thursday to discuss how important national security issues are to every American. Debbie’s son, Marc, lost his life in Iraq in August of 2006. My son Leif was a very close friend of Marc’s and served as his platoon commander in the US Navy SEALS while they were in Iraq. I am proud of my son’s relationship with Marc and am extremely thankful for men like him who are willing to lay down their life for their fellow man.

L to R: Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), Gold Star mom Debbie Lee, myself, and White House Couselor Kellyanne Conway.

Ensuring America has strong national security is one of my highest priorities in Congress. We must make sure every American is safe in their homes and communities.

Israel's Response to Rocket Attacks |
Israel had every right to protect its citizens after having more than 600 rockets fired at it by Hamas and Islamic Jihad last weekend. America must continue to stand with the Israeli people and condemn these acts of terror.

Mark Morgan Selected to Lead ICE |
I applaud President Trump for selecting Mark Morgan as the new Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
As a member of the FBI for 20 years and former head of the U.S. Border Patrol, Mark has already had a distinguished career in law enforcement and is one of our nation’s foremost experts on the crisis at the border. He will be the Director that ICE needs to focus on its mission and fight the efforts of the “open borders crowd” to weaken this fine agency or shut it down altogether. Instead of needing on-the-job training, Mark can hit the ground running and do what is necessary right away to secure our southern border and protect American citizens. The Senate needs to act swiftly and confirm him! |
Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics Hearing |
The Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics held a hearing this week titled, “Keeping Our Sights on Mars.” We discussed how NASA will continue to use the International Space Station to further our knowledge of space and as a testbed for the development of capabilities that will propel America to landing on the Moon, and eventually Mars.
I am proud to serve as the Republican leader on this subcommittee and will continue to work to ensure our nation’s preeminence in Space. |
Teacher Appreciation Week |
As the husband of a former teacher and father of a current teacher, I have seen the hard work, late nights and many sacrifices it takes to do that job and do it well. These men and women who educate our youth play a key role in guiding and inspiring the next generations of American leaders.
This week, I hope many of you had an opportunity to let a teacher know how thankful you are for them! |
Honoring the Life of a Fellow Veteran |
No veteran should leave this world alone. As we said goodbye to U.S. Army veteran Terry Vick earlier this week, I want to thank those in the surrounding communities who were able to attend his funeral.
Mr. Vick is an American patriot who answered the call to serve our country, and he deserves to be honored. I am saddened my duties kept me in Washington, but am proud that members of my staff were present to pay our respects and show our appreciation for Mr. Vick’s military service. |
Celebrating our Small Business |
Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and are currently thriving due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed into law last Congress. As we celebrate all of our small businesses this week, I will remain committed to advancing policies that allow these establishments to do what they do best – create jobs and put Americans to work!
