Robert Mueller Takes to the Press
While I was meeting with constituents in the 36th Congressional District and working with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on flood control and water resource management, Robert Mueller took to the media on Wednesday to reiterate the findings found in the 400-plus page report he issued more than a month ago.
Mueller announced he was closing the Special Counsel’s Office after spending two years, more than $25 million, issuing nearly 3,000 subpoenas, and interviewing hundreds of witnesses only to find “insufficient evidence” of any collusion between President Trump and Russia. The President has been exonerated – it is over.
It is time for House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler to FINALLY read the report, end his witch-hunt, and stop mourning over an election decided two years ago. The American people have been lied to enough. Congress needs to focus on the things that are important to millions of Americans like infrastructure and securing the border.
In other news, I had a great tour of USACE's ongoing projects at Sam Rayburn and Town Bluff. Members of USACE's team took the time to show me the spillway operations at Dam B as well as the hydroelectric generators that keep the dams functioning properly.
 Typhoid Reimerges in the US
We do not know who is crossing our borders nor do we know what diseases they might be carrying. We cannot allow eradicated diseases like typhoid and the measles to infect another citizen of this country. This is absurd! As long as Democrats in Congress refuse to act on the crisis at the southern border, more AMERICANS will continue to die. We must take action to secure our border and protect the American people NOW.

The Tragic Shooting in Cleveland
My team and I are continuing to closely track details regarding the shooting that took place in Cleveland, TX on Wednesday, taking the life of one, and injuring three others. I know that many people across Southeast Texas join Roxanne and me in praying for a full recovery for the injured, including Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Whitten who remains in critical condition.

The suspect was found Wednesday afternoon deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and while we are waiting for more details about this tragedy to come to light, I know more must be done to identify and manage those who are on a pathway to violence before an attack can occur.
The USMCA Must Be Brought to the House Floor for a Vote
Speaker Pelosi needs to bring the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) to the House floor for a vote! The President’s recent announcement suspending the steel and aluminum tariffs on Mexico and Canada is evidence that he is pushing hard for arrangements that benefit the American economy and its citizens.

Passage of the USMCA would ensure Texas, and the Gulf Region in particular, could continue to grow and prosper, and would boost export sales for companies of all sizes. Not to mention, the USMCA will bring certainty and stability back to our farmers and ranchers who have suffered from retaliatory tariffs for too long, allowing them to continue working with Canada and Mexico in a fair system, strengthening our agriculture industry.

President Trump is doing his job – now it is time for Congress to do theirs. This should be a no brainer – Democrats need to get on board!

Visiting Deputy McKeon
On Thursday afternoon, I was able to visit with Stephanie and Army Specialist Matt McKeon, the wife and son of Sour Lake Police Officer William McKeon, Jr. who was brutally beaten Monday night after responding to a disturbance outside of a convenience store.
Officer McKeon is in critical, but stable, condition in a Beaumont hospital where he underwent surgery on Friday. Please join me in praying for Officer McKeon and his family.
 US Air Force Academy Signing
As a Member of Congress, having a hand in choosing our next military leaders is an honor that I take extremely seriously. Each year, students throughout TX-36 who wish to attend one of our coutnry's military academies must receive a Congressional nomination by their Congressman (House or Senate). There is a a long and tedious process that requires students to be interviewed by a panel of various military veterans, business owners, and community leaders from across the district.

Adriana Francis (pictured below) is a recent graduate from Orangefield High School, and I am proud to say that she has received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. She and her family joined me in my district office in Woodville to sign her certificate and discuss her future in the US Air Force.
Congratualtions Adriana, I know you will make us all proud!

Recognizing the Dam B Community Watch
I traveled to Dam B earlier this week to present an American flag (that was flown over the US Capitol) to the Dam B Community Watch Club and local law enforcement at the Tyler Country Sheriff's Department and EMS Substation.
I presented this flag in appreciation of the selfless service by these men and women to the community of Town Bluff.
Small Businesses are the Backbone of our Economy
I had a great discussion with nearly twenty small business owners from the Crosby and Highlands communities Tuesday afternoon at the Office of Scott Stephens and Associates in Crosby. Among the many topics discussed, the conversation focused on the growing economy, overburdening health care costs and regulations, immigration reform, and border security.
It is critical that we support small businesses, that we make it easier for them to compete against larger companies, and that we strrive to provide every tool and resource necessary to ensure they continue to thrive.
