Babin Applauds Kavanaugh Confirmation, Condemns 'Win-At-All-Costs Tactics'

With Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation secured, this embarrassing chapter in the history of the Senate can finally conclude. The shameful political theater Americans witnessed in disgust was never about determining the truth but designed to block this nomination by any means necessary – no matter how salacious or unprecedented. The longstanding process for vetting a nominee openly and in good faith was so flagrantly violated that the public's faith in our government institutions may be forever damaged.

I applaud my Texas colleagues Senator Ted Cruz and Senator John Cornyn for their leadership in fairly evaluating and ultimately voting in favor of this supremely qualified nominee. Unfortunately, this process previewed the new playbook of win-at-all-costs tactics by radical elements whose desire for absolute political power over their countrymen would lead them to willfully destroy the foundational principles so many Americans cherish. The events of recent weeks make clear that the stakes remain high in the ongoing fight to preserve our liberties.

I wish Justice Kavanaugh a long career on the Supreme Court. I have complete confidence he will conduct himself with the integrity, sense of fairness, and respect for our Republic's sacred heritage of law and order that was so glaringly and unconscionably abandoned during his confirmation process.

Update at the Wall

I spent Thursday morning with agents of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol in San Diego, CA as we looked at the different prototypes of President Trump's proposed wall. Securing our borders is perhaps the most important necessity facing our nation today. We have to protect our citizens and control our borders in order to maintain national sovereignty. It was great to be able to see the progress and hear stories from the brave men and women guarding our border.

Small Business Roundtables

Small businesses are pillars of communities throughout our nation, so I was happy to meet this week with several small business owners in Warren and Hardin to discuss issues concerning them, including the need to reduce and eliminate overburdensome government regulations as well as how tax reform legislation passed this year benefits small businesses and their employees. Thank you to Brandy and Cory Winkler for hosting us at the Bar-B-Q Pit in Warren. Other participants included Cory Owens, owner of East Tex Paint & Body, Judy Lewis with Triple D Ranch, Valerie Middleton with Flowershop, and Shawn Ryals with R Texas Star Grooming & Boarding.
Also, a huge thank you to the Hardin County Volunteer Fire Department for hosting as well as all of our participants which included Anthony Dagle with Southeast Texas Farm & Ranch in Raywood, Randy Brazil with Southeast Texas Olive in Devers, Connie Campbell with Maci Feed & Supply in Hardin, Patti Atkins with Oilfield Welding and Fabrication in Hull, Keisha Robinson with First Liberty National Bank in Hardin, Klint Bush with Bayview Home Health and Commissioner of Liberty County ESD 7 (fire station), and Grant Stoesser with G.S. Farm Company in Liberty.

Hull-Daisetta Site Visit
After Hurricane Harvey, Hull-Daisetta (H-D) Elementary School was completely flooded and all of its contents were declared a total loss.

H-D Elementary has not had classes on this campus since August of 2017, but thankfully the reconstructed building is expected to be ready in December. Thanks to Superintendent Mary Huckabay and Principal Quinn Godwin (pictured below) for showing me around their soon-to-be new school!
Breitbart Interview
I joined Matthew Boyle on Breitbart Radio to discuss my disgust for the radical tactics we saw employed during the Kavanaugh confirmation process.

Welcome Home SSG Phillip Blackmon
Every year since September 11, 2001, RE/MAX Realty partners with the Texas Sentinels Foundation to build a house for a veteran who was severely injured in the line of duty. This year, U. S. Army SSG Phillip Blackmon has been named the recipient of a new home.

SSG Blackmon was an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Specialist who holds the record for successfully diffusing more than 150,000 tons of unexploded ordnance during combat missions in Iraq over a four year span. In 2006, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated three feet away from SSG Blackmon's vehicle causing him and others multiple injuries.
I am proud that Lanie Brown, Regional Director of Community Relations on my staff, was able to present SSG Blackmon with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol and thank him for his willingness to answer the call and defend our nation's freedom.
Visiting with Chambers County Rice Farmers
I had the privilege of meeting with our local rice farmers in Winnie on Saturday where we discussed many important provisions in the Farm Bill. America thrives off of family farms, and it is crucial that we pursue policies to help them succeed. I will continue working hard to fight for our Texas farmers.

Touring the RoyOMartin OSB Manufacturing Plant
The RoyOMartin Oriented Strand Board (OSB) manufacturing plant located in Corrigan provides many great jobs and opportunities to the region. I was able to tour the site on Tuesday with the plant’s Vice President, Terry Secrest, and was very impressed with the production by their hard-working employees. I’m looking forward to seeing the impact the plant's operation has for the community and Texas.
 Friday Night Football Coin-Toss
There is nothing like Texas football! The Woodville Eagles earned a tough win over the Warren Warriors last Friday night. Both teams played hard, and I was honored to flip the coin at the beginning of the game.
Calling All Interns
I am looking for new interns to work in my Washington, D.C. office in the Spring of 2019. Students must be enrolled in an accredited college and have at least one semester under their belt.

Washington will be a busy and exciting time in the Spring! My staff and I are excited to show a new group of students the fast-paced world of Capitol Hill.
