Supreme Court Blocks Obama’s EPA Carbon Emission Regulations
|
The U.S. Supreme Court's decision this week to halt President Obama’s EPA “Clean Power Plan” regulations is a huge victory for the American people, the state of Texas and the rule of law. President Obama’s ‘Clean Power Plan’ is an unworkable cap-and-trade energy scheme that unlawfully circumvents Congressional authority. It will eliminate thousands of jobs, shut down coal plants and mines across the country, and raise the electricity bills of tens of millions of Americans – particularly in Texas. I commend the Supreme Court for putting a stop to this unlawful abuse of power and protecting the American people from another blatant EPA overreach.

| Babin: Obama’s Final Budget is Not a Serious Proposal, Nothing More Than a Liberal Wish List |
On Tuesday, the President released his final budget proposal, which includes $2.5 trillion in new spending and $3.4 trillion in higher taxes. The President's overall $4.1 trillion budget would increase the national debt to over $27 trillion, which is two and a half times larger than when he took office. I have 12 grandchildren and I cannot even think about doing that to my grandkids. Instead, we need to pass a balanced budget and end Washington’s addiction to spending money that it does not have. Time to act is now – future generations depend on it.

Transportation Committee Approves Two Babin Amendments to Promote Drone Safety and Prevent New Traveling Fees
|
This week the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee unanimously approved two amendments that I offered during the consideration of the Aviation Innovation, Reform and Reauthorization Act. The first amendment sets new guidelines for operating drones near chemical plants and oil refineries. As the representative of the 36th District of Texas, which is home to more petrochemical and refining facilities than any other district in the country, I was proud to secure the adoption of these provisions as a way to protect our oil and gas facilities from potentially hazardous and unauthorized drone activity. The second amendment puts a check on the new ATC Corporation’s ability to assess and impose fees on the traveling public. By allowing Congress a 90-day review period to block the implementation of any fee increase, my amendment would let the American people know where their elected representatives stands on such an increase, no matter who is in charge of imposing them. Snap-shots from the Week

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting with retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who most recently served as the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency – the nation's highest-ranking military intelligence officer. General Flynn is a fearless critic of Obama's misguided foreign policy. I really enjoyed hearing his views on what it will take to destroy ISIS, as well as the serious and legitimate flaws in the refugee screening process.
It was a pleasure meeting with Texas rice farmers Chuck Kiker of Beaumont, Dwight Roberts of Houston, and Ray Stoesser and Grant Stoesser of Dayton. I enjoyed the opportunity to discuss the issues important to our local rice farmers.
