Babin Joins Bulls & Bears to Discuss $2T Infrastructure Package |
I joined Bulls & Bears on Fox Business earlier this week to discuss a potential $2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package. As the Congressman for a district with numerous ports, highways, railroads, waterways and pipelines, I know how vital it is to have reliable infrastructure. While I am willing to compromise in order to pass an infrastructure package this Congress, Democrats must be willing to check their pet projects (like the Green New Deal) at the door.
Two trillion dollars is a massive sum, and as of now no one has a plan for how we would pay for it. This responsibility falls on Congress, not the President. So often Democrats decide on a huge amount of money and fill in the details later – which has led to irresponsible spending that fails to get the most out of every dollar for our country or its citizens. We saw this in 2009 when Joe Biden was in charge of the “Stimulus Bill," when unemployment actually went UP even after nearly a trillion dollars in borrowed money was spent.
Our nation needs strong infrastructure, and I am confident we can work together to find common ground IF Democrats, who control the House, are realistic in their proposals and willing to compromise.

Medicare for All = Quality Health Care for No One |
The Democrats’ “Medicare for All Act” would complete the takeover of the health care sector they began in 2010 with Obamacare. More than 100 million Americans will lose their employer sponsored coverage under this one-size-fits-all legislation – and over 13 million of those folks reside in Texas! Another factor this bill lacks is any realistic mechanism to pay for it, since even doubling everyone’s taxes would not come close to covering the trillions of dollars it would cost.
When Obamacare was getting pushed through Congress 10 years ago, Democrats in Washington told people they could keep their health care provider and plan if they liked them – which millions of Americans found out was a complete lie. So while at least now they are being honest and up front about their plan to impose socialized medicine on every single citizen, it is more important than ever that we stop this bill from becoming law.
Bottom line: Medicare for All eventually means high quality care for No One!

National Day of Prayer 2019 |
On Thursday, Americans across the country participated in National Day of Prayer. I wish I could have been in attendance at the various events that occurred across the 36th Congressional District, but my duties kept me in Washington, DC. However, I am glad to report that several members of my staff were able to participate in many community gatherings that occurred throughout the district.

Members of my staff (L to R): Will Carter, Regional Community Manager, spoke in Chambers County; Rachel Iglesias, Regional Director, spoke in Tyler County; and Kelly Waterman, District Director, spoke in Liberty County. |
My staff and I pray for the Lord’s blessing on every citizen residing in the 36th Congressional District, the Great State of Texas, and the United States of America.

The Economy Continues to Thrive |
The economy continues to expand and break records! Thousands of jobs are being added to the market each month, unemployment is the lowest it has been in 50 years and the first quarter GDP grew by 3.2 percent. Hundreds of businesses are hiring, leading to more and more Americans going back to work – but Washington Democrats refuse to cheer on the good news!
Based on FACTS, the American people are still benefiting tremendously from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Democrats in Washington might just be frustrated because so many of our citizens no longer rely on the federal government to make ends meet.

Remembering the Holocaust |
We will never forget the 6 million Jews and countless others who tragically lost their lives at the hands of Nazi Germany. Anti-Semitism should NEVER have a place in our society. We must always stand against this kind of hate to ensure the world never repeats such a dark time in history.
My friends Congressman Steve Scalise and Congressman Lee Zeldin wrote an Op-Ed condemning the resurgence of anti-Semitism below.

Speaking at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Reception |
I am proud to serve as the Republican Leader on the Space Subcommittee and also Co-Chairman of the House Aerospace Caucus. It was great speaking at the AIAA reception on Tuesday to thank them for doing such a great job supporting our aerospace engineers. I look forward to continuing to work with AIAA and my colleagues across the aisle to make sure America remains the leader in space.

FEMA: Get Flood Insurance Today |
If you live in a coastal area and do not have flood insurance, now is the time to act. There are only 30 days until hurricane season, and most policies take 30 days to become effective.
Homeowners and renters policies are great for what they cover — but they rarely include any damage from flooding.
After Hurricane Harvey, about 92,000 Texans received flood insurance payouts, bringing an estimated $8.92 billion for those survivors. Many Texans without flood insurance, however, had to rebuild their lives with personal savings and whatever federal assistance they were eligible to receive.
I pray we never witness another Harvey, but we must prepare in the case that we do.

President Trump Tightens Asylum Laws |
I applaud President Trump for issuing a memorandum to the Department of Homeland Security this week tightening asylum immigration laws.
Migrants are flooding to our southern border to use, most times, meritless asylum claims to gain entry into our country and remain here indefinitely.
These immigrants are issued a court date then released into the interior of our country to await that date. When the court date arrives – they do not show. In fact, most times they are never seen again.
Our immigration courts are exorbitantly backlogged with nearly 900,000 cases waiting to be resolved.
We must change our laws and secure our nation’s borders now – before they no longer exist! |
The Battle of the Coral Sea |
At this time, 77 years ago, the Battle of the Coral Sea raged in the Pacific Theater. Brave American and Austrailian soldiers fought to defend the Coral Sea from the Japanese in what is designated as the first air-sea battle in history. This week, we remember those who courageously fought and died in this assault that had an important impact on the Allie victory at the Battle of Midway a month later.
