Babin on Schumer Shutdown
I am disgusted with Senate Democrats holding government funding hostage to try to achieve their agenda while harming millions of Americans. Senator Schumer must end his politically motivated shutdown and pass the bipartisan House bill that keeps the government open. There is literally nothing in this bill that he opposes. By blocking this bipartisan bill and requiring a supermajority vote, he has manufactured a government shutdown to demand that his amnesty plan be added to the bill.Showing his hypocrisy, what Schumer is now demanding in order to reopen the government is a demand he never made when Democrats held a super majority in the House and Senate.

The Schumer Shutdown is harming our troops, blocking CHIP heath care funding for children and obstructing relief for the thousands of constituents still recovering from Hurricane Harvey. Holding American citizens and U.S. troops hostage through obstructionist actions in an effort to advance his amnesty demands is unconscionable.
Babin Introduces The Commonsense Flood Prevention Act

This week, I introduced the Commonsense Flood Prevention Act, mandating a review of hydropower dam licenses in Southeast Texas, including Toledo Bend Reservoir and Lake Livingston. This bill is similar to an amendment that I offered and passed unanimously in November to encourage such a review. I have heard from countless citizens and community leaders about the terrible flooding seen in the vicinity of these dams and share their concerns that Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) management practices over lake levels and flood storage may have played a role. Our bill makes clear that FERC can examine and begin the process of making changes to the license of these facilities to ensure these concerns are being addressed.

Babin Joins Fellow Republicans in Support of The Born-Alive Abortions Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 4712)
I was proud to cast my vote in support of H.R. 4712, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This legislation, that I cosponsored, will ensure that medical practitioners treat babies born alive after a failed abortion with the same care they would treat any baby born at the same gestational age. Everyone should agree that it is inhumane to willingly kill a baby who has been born alive. It is past time to end this repugnant practice.
Unfortunately, the left spread the lie that pro-life Republicans only care about life when it is in the womb and not once it is born. However, this bill is going to protect the born and alive and nearly all of its support came from Republicans. No human should be treated with such violence. I am proud to have been a part of the efforts to end this vile act inflicted on infants.
More Tax Cut Benefits Putting More Money Into The Pockets of Hardworking Americans
The Treasury has announced new withholding tables that will mean hardworking Americans across the country see boosts in their paychecks as early as February 2018 (in just a few weeks). This is a huge win for the vast majority of Americans who are working paycheck-to-paycheck. It has been less than a month since the President signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the benefits keep rolling in!
Apple also announced it will invest $350 billion in the U.S. economy, create 20,000 new American jobs, give their employees a $2,500 bonus and pay $38 billion in new taxes to bring its cash back to America. This is all thanks to our new tax law, which continues to bring more jobs, higher wages and investments in America, where it belongs!
Babin Regional Director Honored With Harvey Hero Award
Extremely proud of our Regional Director of Community Relations, Lanie Brown, for being honored with the Blossoming Minds MLK Gala Harvey Hero Award. A very well deserved honor for a true public servant who has gone above and beyond in helping others in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
Remembering Lieutenant Commander Charles Edward "Billy" Watts
We lost a true American and local hero with the passing of WWII fighter ace Lt. Cdr. Billy Watts of Baytown, Texas. With over 8 confirmed kills, Lt. Cdr. Watts earned the designation as an American Fighter Ace – one of only 1,500 to have ever achieved such status. I was extremely privileged to have met Mr. Watts when he was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal in 2015. In his honor, I submitted the following congressional record statement celebrating his incredible life and remarkable service in uniform. May God bless Mr. Watts and his entire family. He will be greatly missed.
Babin: We Must Hold Sanctuary City Politicians Accountable

To watch interview, please click here.
There needs to be accountability for elected officials who obstruct federal immigration enforcement efforts and purposely releases criminal aliens back onto the streets. They are jeopardizing the safety of Americans – and it is getting people killed. I've met with the families of these victims and their stories are heartbreaking. Any politician who refuses to follow federal immigration laws must be held to account. We are a nation of laws – not of individuals.
