Officially a Member of the 116th Congress
|
Thursday, the first day of the 116th Congress, my colleagues and I swore an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Providing for the security of the American people against threats to both our citizens and a lawful society is our primary duty. For the next two years, in a divided Congress, that primary duty must remain the same, and it must come before party politics.

Signing my oath of office for the 116th Congress and ready to get back to work to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic”. |
In refusing to agree to any compromise to offer even one red cent for a border wall (support for which until recently was bipartisan), our next Speaker fails to place the security of the American people first. Somehow, despite refusing to come to the table in good faith, she claims the shutdown has "nothing to do with" her party. To get all our citizens back to work and the government open, Congress must fund the wall.

Our Borders Must Be Secured
|
This is why I am fighting to secure our border. It is sad that tragedies such as this, involving an illegal alien, happen as often as they do. These senseless crimes could be prevented if we would secure our borders and stop the overflow of illegals from entering into our country.

Photo of the Week |
I had a great visit with Alabama-Coushatta's Chair-Elect Cecila Flores (pictured below immediately to my right) and other members of her group in Washington on Friday. After our meeting, a member of my staff took these folks on a tour of the U.S. Capitol!

Thousands of New Jobs Added to the Market |
U.S. Employers increased their hiring during the month of December, adding 312,000 new jobs to the market. Manufacturers saw their biggest job gain in two decades!

The Fight for Life Continues |
House Democrats are now trying to force funding for abortion with the repeal of the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance policy, which prevents U.S. foreign aid money from being used to perform or promote abortions.
This bill goes against America's reputation as a strong defender of freedom and human rights around the world. American taxpayers should not be forced to pay international abortion advocates!
