Babin Slams Administration For Its Weak and Embarrassing Handling of Iran
|
I felt compelled this week to speak on behalf of the millions of Americans who continue to be dumbfounded and frustrated by this Administration’s handling of Iran. Shortly before President Obama’s final State of the Union, news broke that 10 U.S. Navy Sailors had been captured by Iran. Remarkably, he didn’t even mention their safety while TVs across the world became littered with pictures of our Sailors on their knees at gunpoint. Even worse, Iran’s supreme leader celebrated the incident by awarding medals to those Iranians who “captured intruding” Americans.
Once resolved, Secretary Kerry had the audacity to actually thank the Iranians. And President Obama then released billions of dollars in sanctions to the Iranians. This is yet another embarrassing episode of weakness and capitulation that only serves to embolden our enemies and increase the likelihood of conflict. It’s time this Administration sets aside what I would characterize as a disdain for our military and instead defend our service members with the passion and respect they have earned and deserve.

| Babin Votes to Override Presidential Veto of Bill Repealing Obamacare |
This past week the House voted to override President Obama’s veto of the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act (H.R. 3762), which would dismantle Obamacare, prohibit federal funding for Planned Parenthood and save taxpayers over $500 billion. While the House lacked the necessary support from Democrats to override the veto, this entire process shows what is at stake in November.
With a Republican in the White House, the President could sign this bill and finally rid the nation of Obamacare, restore health care freedom and eliminate taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. No longer would the American people have to suffer under Obamacare – and its unaffordable costs, broken promises and countless big government mandates. Instead, we would put the nation on a path toward patient-focused care rather than government-directed care.

Legislative Recap:
House Votes to End Government Operation Targeting Gun Dealers and Reinstate Sanctions on Iran
|
This past week the House voted to end Operation Choke Point, which is yet another example of executive overreach used by the Obama Administration to advance its liberal agenda. Originally designed to "choke out" the survival of fraudulent businesses, the Obama Administration has misused this program to target legitimate businesses, such as U.S. gun dealers and manufacturers. This is a clear abuse of power and I’m glad the House voted to put a stop to it.
The Administration's foolish deal with Iran has allowed sanctions to be lifted on a significant number of individuals, companies, and banks who have actively engaged in Iran’s support of terrorism. For this reason, the House passed a bill that would simply reinstate these sanctions until the Administration can certify that these entities have not done business with a terrorist organization, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or in support of Iran’s ballistic missile program. If they cannot assure this, then sanctions should not be lifted.

Thank you to the folks at NanoRacks for showing us around their operation in Webster, Texas. The flight hardware they have developed is revolutionizing payload transport and deployment. To view more pictures from our tour and other space related facilities in the Houston area, please click here.
Enjoyed the opportunity to address the annual Texas Water Day on Capitol Hill. Having served on the Lower Neches Valley Authority, I understand the important role and critical need in delivering this most precious resource to our communities, homes and citizens.
