Babin Hosts Veterans Town Hall in Orange
|
The message was loud and clear from our veterans at our town hall meeting in Orange on Thursday. They are simply not getting the care and services they have earned and deserve. Our veterans need to be a priority. And the VA has a long way to go to make sure that is the case. As a veteran myself and the father of decorated Navy SEAL, this is very personal to me and I’m working hard to make sure the interests of our veterans are put ahead of everything else. If you need assistance or know anyone who does, please do not hesitate to call our office.

Rep. Babin Op-Ed in National Review:
America’s Refugee Program: A Clear and Present Danger |
Our nation’s refugee program is a clear and present danger to America. Over one year ago, I introduced the Resettlement Accountability National Security Act to suspend the program and stop the president’s reckless plan to bring in tens of thousands of refugees from Syria and other radical Islamic hotspots.
President Obama’s own FBI director has warned that he cannot properly screen refugees coming from troubled terrorist hotspots such as Syria. But political correctness blinds far too many in Washington to this imminent peril. Our first duty as elected officials is to protect American citizens and national security — immediately.
We must reevaluate our policy regarding refugee resettlement to protect the safety, freedom, and liberty we value as American citizens. Our current program is a Trojan horse allowing ISIS and other terrorist groups an open invitation to immigrate into the U.S. and establish bases of operation legally and at taxpayer expense. It is simply common sense to protect what we value. We put our money in banks, lock our doors at night, fence our yards, and protect our families and communities.
Innocent lives are at stake. H.R. 3314 must be brought to the floor of the U. S. Congress, passed, and signed into law. Although a veto by Obama is likely, it would be an absolute dereliction of our sworn duty not to try.

Houston Congressmen Announce Formation of Texas Space Congressional Caucus
|
On August 11th, during a meeting with Houston space industry leaders, including members of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP), I was proud to announce the formation of the Texas Space Congressional Caucus to help advocate and protect the interests of NASA's Johnson Space Center and the space industry across Texas.
The bipartisan coalition, which will be co-chaired by Rep. John Culberson, was also formed with the support of Houston Reps. Gene Green and Al Green. Space is a hazardous environment, and the political environment for space can be hazardous too. Our new caucus will allow us to more effectively navigate the political environment to ensure the advancement of our long-term national space initiatives.

| A Better Way: Tax Reform |
There is a lot of disagreement in Washington and across America about the issues we face as a country, but one thing we can all agree on is that economic growth is the best way to get our fiscal house in order. And setting us on a path towards economic growth and job creation must begin by reforming our tax code, and House Republicans have put forth a Better Way to do just that.
Our plan makes filing your taxes as simple and easy as filling out a post card. It gets rid of the loopholes and special perks that the well-connected have set up for themselves, and brings down the rates for everyone.
Our plan also allows small businesses, like the one I ran for 30 years as a small town dentist, to spend their time growing, expanding, and hiring - not filling out mountains of paperwork. This will bring a tremendous benefit to hardworking families and our economy. I encourage each of you to go to www.better.gop to learn more.

| Snap-shots from Texas 36 |
I enjoyed meeting employees and learning more about the Railworks Track Systems facility in Deer Park on Thursday. The track that RailWorks builds and maintains right here in Southeast Texas is critical to America’s freight rail network. To view more pictures, please click here.
I had a great meeting this week with a group of pastors in Woodville as we discussed our shared commitment to protecting unborn life, religious liberty and our traditional Texas values.
