Visiting the Southern Border in Arizona
I had a great trip to the border in Arizona this week.
I met with Sheriffs, CBP officers, DEA agents, ranchers, and others to learn more about what’s happening on our southern border – illegal crossings, drug smuggling, and human trafficking, just to name a few.

Participating in the Tyler County Dogwood Parade
I enjoyed participating in the Tyler County Dogwood Parade Saturday morning in Woodville.
The COVID-19 pandemic certainly delayed this annual event, but it didn’t stop us from celebrating a tradition that’s been ongoing for 77 years.
It was great visiting with everyone who attended the parade!

Congratulating the 2020 Congressional Art Competition Winner
I hosted a virtual awards reception on Saturday, June 6, with the students and families who participated in the 36th Congressional District’s Congressional Art Competition. This year’s theme was “Memories of the Battleship Texas.”

First place was awarded to Lily Grace Niemann, a sophomore at Niemann Christian Academy in Woodville, TX. Her artwork titled “Remembering the Texas: A Glimpse of Glory,” depicting the Battleship Texas at the Battle of Okinawa during World War II, will be displayed in the United States Capitol Building for an entire year.
I applaud each of the students who overcame the school disruptions caused by COVID-19 to participate in this year’s Congressional Art Competition. Every piece submitted was unique and beautiful. I’m always proud to see artwork from Southeast Texas as I pass by the national exhibit in the U.S. Capitol. Holding the virtual art competition reception on June 6 – the 76th anniversary of D-Day – worked very well with this year’s theme since the Battleship Texas contributed greatly to the Allied victory achieved at Normandy, France those many years ago. I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who took the time to compete and offer a special congratulations to our 2020 winner, Lily.

Antifa Disgracefully Compared to D-Day Heroes
Comparing Antifa thugs to D-Day heroes is disgraceful. The soldiers of the Greatest Generation fought and died to defeat tyranny and defend the very freedoms Antifa tries to destroy. Shame on those who equate the heroics of D-Day with burning down a mom and pop business.

Congressman Jim Jordan Hit the Nail on the Head
Congressman Jim Jordan hit the nail on the head in his opening statement during the House Judiciary Committee hearing this week about the murder of George Floyd and Patrick Underwood, ongoing riots/protests, and the radical new “defund the police” narrative.

Worth the watch!

California Prioritizes Illegal Aliens Over Homeless Americans
California continues to have the largest homeless population in the U.S. Tragically, they'd rather give available funds (millions of taxpayer dollars) to illegal aliens than help the thousands of American citizens living on the streets.

Defunding or Dismantling the Police is the Wrong Call
Defunding or dismantling the police is the WRONG CALL. Crime rates would soar, and Americans would be placed in unnecessary danger. The majority of law enforcement would lay down their lives to protect you. Great Op-Ed and statistics in the Washington Examiner ⬇️.

OTD in U.S. History
On this day (OTD), in 1777, the U.S. officially adopted its flag by resolution in the Second Continental Congress. The resolution read that “the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white,” and that “the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”

More than 100 years later, in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation designating June 14 as Flag Day; however, it is not an official federal holiday.
