U.S. Congressman Brian Babin
The U.S. Must Lead in Human Space Exploration

It was a pleasure to welcome Dr. Scott Pace, the Executive Secretary of the National Space Council (NSC), and his deputy, Jared Stout (both pictured) to my Washington, D.C. office. We had a fantastic discussion about the current state of our space industry, as well as all the great work that the NSC is doing to ensure that the United States remains the preeminent space faring nation in the world. I had invited Dr. Pace to meet with me to emphasize to him the importance of the Johnson Space Center and its employees to current and future human space endeavors. We had a very productive conversation.
President Trump Nominates Conservative Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court

Judge Brett Kavanaugh is an outstanding choice to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the U.S. Supreme Court. He has exceptional legal knowledge and qualifications, and brings to this nomination a distinguished career of upholding the Constitution and rule of law.  Now more than ever, it is important to appoint justices who will defend our rights to free speech, religious liberty, and limited government. I am confident that Judge Kavanaugh will do just that on the Supreme Court.

Judicial appointments serve as one of the most important duties and enduring legacies for a president.  We are fortunate once again that the American people put President Trump in office for this historic opportunity to appoint highly qualified, conservative judges to both our lower courts and twice now to the Supreme Court.  I urge my colleagues in the Senate to act swiftly and confirm this highly qualified nominee.

Regulatory Relief is on the Way

This week, Congress passed the Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act (H.R. 50), which will help restore honesty and transparency to federal mandates. Washington has a bad habit of imposing expensive rules on local governments and small businesses, while hiding the burdensome costs of these regulations to local governments and small businesses. With the passage of H.R. 50, relief is on the way. I was proud to vote for this bill, continuing the Republican agenda of job growth and cutting burdensome regulations.

Family Reunification: Fact vs. Fake News

There has been much coverage by the mainstream media about separations at the border – much of it is incorrect, "fake news." They've even resorted to doctoring photos and creating fake narratives. I would encourage folks to learn the facts about this situation. The Department of Homeland Security has worked tirelessly to reunite as many families as possible. Here are some facts about these cases:

  • As of July 12, 57 of the 103 children covered by the court case had been reunified with their parents.

  • 46 of those children were acknowledged by the court to be ineligible for reunification under court-approved criteria.

  • Of those 46, 22 children were ineligible due to safety concerns from the adults in question, including some with criminal history, or found not to be the parent to the child in question.

Constituent Snap-Shots

It was great to meet with several leaders from the Texas National Guard – members of both the Army and Air. We discussed the dual role they serve both to our nation and the great state of Texas. Not only do these men and women fearlessly take the fight to the enemy overseas, they also keep Texans safe when tragedy and natural disasters occur on the home front. I cannot express enough how proud I am to represent them all in Congress.

I was happy to welcome the extremely talented Juliann Dooley and her mom, Dana Dooley, to the office for the Congressional Art Contest Ceremony recently. Juliann attends Warren High School and her drawing will hang in the U.S. Capitol for an entire year. Congratulations again, Juliann!

The Leidecker Family, from La Porte, were able to check out the view from the Speaker’s Balcony while they were on their U.S. Capitol tour. Please reach out to our office if you are planning a trip to our nation’s capital!
