Reaction to Supreme Court
Same-Sex Marriage Ruling |
As a strong supporter of traditional marriage and a firm believer in state sovereignty, I am deeply disappointed that five members of the U.S. Supreme Court have over-ruled tens of millions of Americans – including millions in the State of Texas – who have voted to enact state statutes and state Constitutional amendments to define marriage as between one man and one woman.
Congress should take immediate action to restore each state’s ability to determine their own marriage laws, instead of allowing a federal court to decide such an important issue. In response, I have cosponsored the following legislation and will continue to advocate for bringing this legislation before Congress for a vote:
• Protecting the Rights of those with Religious Convictions Against Coercion by the Government – Original cosponsor of H.R. 2802 to protect churches, Christian schools and colleges, and business-owners from being coerced by the government to act against their religious conviction in regards to acceptance of same-sex marriage.
• Defining Marriage in the United States as Only Between One Man and One Woman – Cosponsor of H.J. Res 32 the Marriage Protection Constitutional Amendment.
• Protecting the Rights of States to Define Traditional Marriage – Cosponsor of H.R. 825 the State Defense of Marriage Act.
• Stripping Federal Courts of Jurisdiction to Hear Cases Related to Marriage – Original cosponsor of H.R. 1968 Restrain the Judges on Marriage Act of 2015. |
Babin Blasts Supreme Court
Obamacare Decision
Introduces Bill to Require
Supreme Court Justices to Sign Up for Obamacare |
On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision to uphold the Obama Administration’s re-write of the law to hand out tens of billions of dollars in Obamacare subsidies to those who were ineligible.
I believe the Supreme Court’s decisions to ignore the letter of the law and essentially re-write it to accommodate the Obama Administration is an outrageous usurpation of legislative authority. I agree whole heartedly with Justice Scalia’s determination that the Court’s actions are ‘absurd’ and that ‘words no longer have meaning’ under this ruling. With Texans facing another double digit increase in health care premiums under Obamacare this coming year, I remain committed to dismantling this law one rotten tooth at time so that health care freedom can be restored to the American people.
As the Supreme Court continues to ignore the letter of the law, it’s important that these six individuals understand the full impact of their decisions on the American people. That’s why I introduced the SCOTUScare Act to require the Supreme Court and all of its employees to sign up for Obamacare. By eliminating their exemption from Obamacare, they will see firsthand what the American people are forced to live with!

Babin and Cruz Join Forces
to Eliminate Immigration Slush Fund |
On Monday, I joined Sen. Ted Cruz in introducing the Immigration Slush Fund Elimination Act, which prohibits the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from redirecting fees it collected to process legal immigration to fund the President’s executive actions on immigration. This legislation would cut off the DHS’ ability to self-fund the President’s executive actions and restore Congressional authority.
While the United States is a nation of immigrants, we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong to divert the fees paid by those immigrating legally to the United States to pay for amnesty for those who came here illegally – and our bill puts an end to that practice.

Listening to Our Local Veterans |
I recently had the pleasure of joining 75 local veterans at the Broken Yolk Grill in Pasadena, Texas, for a breakfast meeting to talk specifically about the issues important to our nation’s heroes. It was an honor to spend time with some of our current and former service members to discuss our shared concern for caring for America’s veterans. As a veteran, I am committed to fighting to ensure these men and women get the care they have earned and deserve. Thank you to restaurant owners Neel and Tracy – as well as organizer Dr. Robert Garcia – for hosting this important event. More pictures from the event can be found HERE.

Fighting to Stop Administration's Plan to Allow Foreign Control Over the Internet |
This past week I was one of only 25 members of the House to vote against the Dotcom Act (H.R. 805), which rubberstamped the Administration’s plan to transfer control over the internet to an international community under the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
This legislation lacked the safeguards necessary to prevent the Administration from giving up our regulatory authority over the internet to a foreign entity. Congress has acted to defund such actions in the past - and we must continue fighting this concession of power at all costs.

House Votes to Protect
Health Care for All Americans |
Last week, the House passed with my support H.R. 1190, the Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act. This bipartisan legislation repeals the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), which is an unelected, unaccountable board of government bureaucrats that was established under Obamacare to cut Medicare spending through restricting coverage and cutting reimbursements. Even more troubling is the fact that these decisions can only be reversed by a supermajority in Congress. By repealing IPAB, we took an important step in protecting the health care of all Americans.
